Sergeant Perrotta spent the evening with the Union Cub Scout Pack 757 helping bring awareness to crime prevention and personal safety. Topics included situational awareness, peer pressure, prevention of cybercrimes, drug prevention, and the daily duties of police officers.

The scouts had a lot of great questions and it was nice getting the chance to talk with them and hear their thoughts.

Thank you to the Scouts and their leaders for having us out. We always enjoy interacting with our children!

On April 15, 2026, the Union Township Police Department partnered with the Pennsylvania State Police to conduct a saturation patrol targeting aggressive driving on main and side roads throughout the township. The patrol focused on issues such as speeding, distracted driving, and work zone safety. Officers also addressed other unsafe behaviors, including driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, and other aggressive actions.

During the patrol, Union Township Police made 62 contacts and issued 44 citations, highlighting the extent of unsafe driving behaviors observed. Drivers are reminded to please slow down and obey traffic laws to help keep everyone on the road safe. Speeding continues to be a major factor in crashes—according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly one-third of all fatal crashes in the United States involve speeding.

This enforcement effort was part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is funded through PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It is with great pride that I commend Officer Anthony Mangino for his exemplary actions on January 24, 2026. While off duty, you took immediate action to a medical emergency involving a union township resident who was experiencing a life-threatening airway obstruction during a dinner outing.

Demonstrating exceptional presence of mind, skill, and compassion, you performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully clearing the obstruction and saving his life. Your swift and decisive response reflects the highest standards of training, professionalism, and dedication to service that this department strives to uphold.

Your actions exemplify the true meaning of public service and bring great credit upon yourself, the profession, and Union Township Police Department. Whether on or off duty, your commitment to protecting life is deeply appreciated and worth of recognition.

On behalf of the Union Township Board Of Supervisors and the Union Township Police Department and the community you serve, thank you for your outstanding service.

Mark K. Julian
Chief of Police

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved K9 officer, Draco, EOW 8/6/2025. Draco and his handler Officer Brenton Linton, faithfully served the community of Union Township since 2017, bringing dedication, courage, and loyalty to every call.

Draco joined us from Hungary and quickly became more than just a partner in law enforcement. He was a friend, a protector, and a symbol of bravery for Union Township. His presence will be deeply missed, but his paw prints will forever remain in our hearts.

Thank you for your years of service and the love you shared with all of us.

Rest in peace, Draco. Job well done! 💙💙🐾🐾

We want to thank Walmart, New Castle Police Department and Amber Petroff who’s been organizing this event for the past several years.

This year’s donations will benefit students in both Union Township and New Castle Area School Districts. We are proud to support our local children and help them start the school year strong.
