Union Township Police Department has obtained an active felony arrest warrant for Tyler Whitaker following a shooting incident that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the area of Boroline Street.

Whitaker is currently wanted on multiple criminal charges, including Felony Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Terroristic Threats, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

The warrant stems from an incident which occurred around 9:15 PM, where a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation. During the encounter, Whitaker allegedly brandished a large semi-automatic handgun, pointed it directly into a victim's face at point-blank range, and explicitly threatened her life.

As the victims attempted to drive away to avoid the assault, Whitaker allegedly fired multiple live rounds at the retreating vehicle, striking the passenger-side rear bumper. Fearing they were being actively pursued by armed individuals, the victims fled in a panic into the City of New Castle, where they lost control of the vehicle and suffered a severe motor vehicle crash into a church structure at East Falls and North Mill Street.

One occupant required emergency medical transport to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, for injuries sustained.

Tyler Whitaker should be considered Armed and Dangerous. If you see him, do not approach him. If you know his current whereabouts, or if you have any information that could assist investigators, please contact the Union Township Police Department immediately at 724-656-9300, or dial 911.

𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭

The Union Township Police Department is teaming up with Rep. Marla Brown’s (R-Lawrence) office to help our residents with the free replacement of license plates that have become difficult to read.

Our Hard to Read License Plate Event will take place on July 9th, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the Union Township Police Department, located at 1910 Davies Ave, New Castle, PA 16101.

“A registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity,” said. We encourage residents to bring in their vehicles and begin the free license plate replacement process.

Our officers will be on-site to inspect plates and determine the need for replacement. If your plate is deemed eligible for replacement, Rep. Brown’s district office team will be right here to assist you with filling out the appropriate paperwork.

Drivers must bring along their unexpired Pennsylvania driver’s license and current vehicle registration card. Specialty plates such as those for veterans, Pennsylvania zoos, college alumni, etc., cannot be processed at this event.
