FRAUD PSA (SAY NO TO GIFT CARDS!!)

As we continue to receive calls for residents being scammed, no legitimate agency will request that you go buy gift cards, stay on the phone with them for an extended period of time, and give them the card numbers over the phone. No legitimate agency will randomly send you a check to cash and send them the money "because you have good credit". PLEASE use your best judgement as the majority of these scammers are overseas and gift cards are not traceable. When you send that money/gift card number, it's gone. Please stop treating unknown callers as anything but strangers.

As with every one of these Fraud reminder posts, please pass this information to your friends and family that do not have social media.

Dog Days of Summer - 6/27 and 6/28

Found Dog - 5/23/2026

On May 23, 2026 at about 1050 hours, STPD recovered the pictured dog on Savannah Road in the area of Union Valley Road. He was not collared or chipped. He was subsequently dropped off at the Lawrence County Humane Society.

As the last 13 years have passed, we continue to have constant reminders of your presence within our department. Whether they be stories of your personality and quotes (little brother), the memorial pins of your badge number on our uniforms, or your pictures continuing to grace our station walls. You were a great Officer and a better man, who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our community. May 2 is the date that you left us, but your memory remains and will never be never forgotten.
