🚨🚨 Community Service Announcement 🚨🚨

New Castle Police Department is proud to announce that three of our very own NCPD officers were recognized by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) at the 2026 Operation-Pull-Over Traffic Safety Award Ceremony.

This ceremony is held annually to recognize officers from all across the State of Indiana that go above and beyond in traffic enforcement. This year's venue was the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with guest speaker IndyCar Champion Tony Kanaan. New Castle Police Department is proud to participate in the Operation-Pull-Over Grant program and utilizes that funding to combat impaired driving, conduct seatbelt enforcement, and to combat stop arm violations during the school year.

This year, Ofc. Brady Renner and Ofc. Jackie Hernandez both received a traffic safety All-Star Award from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Chief Matt Schofield was also recognized by ICJI as one of only two officers in Indiana to be inducted into the Traffic Safety Hall of Fame. Chief Schofield was selected by ICJI for this honor due to showing a dedicated career of proactive traffic enforcement. During his career, Chief Schofield has made hundreds of impaired driving arrests. Chief Schofield continues to set the example for all law enforcement officers in Henry County through his dedicated career of proactive law enforcement and community care.

NCPD is very proud of the hard work and dedication these officers put into traffic enforcement in our community. Traffic enforcement is critical to keep impaired drivers off of our roads. Additionally, proactive traffic enforcement leads to the seizures of illegal guns, drugs, and a decrease in traffic accidents.

NCPD would also like to recognize Ofc. Tony Hughes who serves as the Operation-Pull-Over Traffic Safety Commander for Henry County. Ofc. Hughes is instrumental in securing grant funding and in completing the reporting requirements for ICJI.

Start and finish in historic downtown New Castle, IN! The 1/2 Mile course wraps around most of downtown. The 5K course will take you along Broad Street, up and down Main Street to Baker Park and then back to the finish line. The 10K and 13.1 mile courses utilize the Wilbur Wright Trail. Don’t miss this amazing event!

Race Distances are:
1/2-Mile Fun Run/Walk
5k, 10k, and 13.1-mile Run/Walk
Races begin at 9 am

New Castle Police Department remembers this 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. We remember the thousands of American citizens who lost their lives as well as the hundreds of first responders that paid the ultimate sacrifice. We are humbled and honored to be a small part of emergency services in this great Nation. May we never forget the sacrifices made by so many.

📢 DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Volunteers with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief are currently operating out of First Christian Church in New Castle and assisting homeowners affected by recent flooding and water damage.

🏠 Services may include:
• Removing damaged flooring and sheetrock
• Moving appliances
• Removing damaged cabinetry
• Cleaning and treating areas affected by contaminated water
• Other water-damage cleanup

Residents can use the contact information in the original post below or stop by First Christian Church during daytime hours.

You may also see these crews working throughout New Castle and Henry County. Volunteers will generally be wearing yellow or blue shirts and identification badges.

⚠️ **BEFORE YOU HIRE A CONTRACTOR — STOP, CHECK & VERIFY** ⚠️

The New Castle Police Department would like to remind residents to take a few extra steps before hiring someone to perform construction, roofing, repairs, or other home-improvement work.

Unfortunately, home-improvement and construction scams can happen at any time, but they are especially common following severe storms when homeowners may feel pressured to make repairs quickly.

Before agreeing to work or handing over money:

✅ **Verify the contractor** Check their contractor license, business information, insurance, and references.

✅ **Get it in writing** Make sure you have a detailed written contract describing the work, materials, total cost, payment schedule, timeline, and warranty.

✅ **Verify permits** Don't simply take someone's word that a permit isn't required. For work inside New Castle city limits, residents can contact the **New Castle Building Commission at (765) 521-6823**.

✅ **Protect your money** Avoid paying the entire job upfront or making unusually large deposits. Use traceable payments, keep receipts, and consider tying payments to completed stages of work.

🚩 **WATCH FOR RED FLAGS**, including contractors who:

• Pressure you to “sign today”
• Show up unexpectedly following a storm
• Claim to have “leftover materials” from another job
• Demand a large amount of cash upfront
• Refuse to provide insurance or references
• Tell you a permit “isn't necessary” without verification
