All criminal, suspicious, drug activity, or public safety tips are welcome. These tips go directly to officers on patrol, and are able to be assigned to detectives or special units when needed.

Additionally, officers and shift supervisors will also be able to send out urgent alerts that require your immediate attention if there is a developing criminal investigation or safety concern to the public.

📢 DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Volunteers with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief are currently operating out of First Christian Church in New Castle and assisting homeowners affected by recent flooding and water damage.

🏠 Services may include:
• Removing damaged flooring and sheetrock
• Moving appliances
• Removing damaged cabinetry
• Cleaning and treating areas affected by contaminated water
• Other water-damage cleanup

Residents can use the contact information in the original post below or stop by First Christian Church during daytime hours.

You may also see these crews working throughout New Castle and Henry County. Volunteers will generally be wearing yellow or blue shirts and identification badges.

⚠️ **BEFORE YOU HIRE A CONTRACTOR — STOP, CHECK & VERIFY** ⚠️

The New Castle Police Department would like to remind residents to take a few extra steps before hiring someone to perform construction, roofing, repairs, or other home-improvement work.

Unfortunately, home-improvement and construction scams can happen at any time, but they are especially common following severe storms when homeowners may feel pressured to make repairs quickly.

Before agreeing to work or handing over money:

✅ **Verify the contractor** Check their contractor license, business information, insurance, and references.

✅ **Get it in writing** Make sure you have a detailed written contract describing the work, materials, total cost, payment schedule, timeline, and warranty.

✅ **Verify permits** Don't simply take someone's word that a permit isn't required. For work inside New Castle city limits, residents can contact the **New Castle Building Commission at (765) 521-6823**.

✅ **Protect your money** Avoid paying the entire job upfront or making unusually large deposits. Use traceable payments, keep receipts, and consider tying payments to completed stages of work.

🚩 **WATCH FOR RED FLAGS**, including contractors who:

• Pressure you to “sign today”
• Show up unexpectedly following a storm
• Claim to have “leftover materials” from another job
• Demand a large amount of cash upfront
• Refuse to provide insurance or references
• Tell you a permit “isn't necessary” without verification
• Offer a price dramatically lower than other estimates
• Continually ask for additional money before work is completed
• Want payment made to someone other than the contractor or business
• Become angry or evasive when you ask questions

A legitimate contractor should not be afraid of you verifying their information.

The New Castle Police Department is proud to announce the hiring of Officer Tyler Burton as the newest member of our department!

Officer Burton joins the New Castle Police Department as a lateral hire, bringing with him four years of law enforcement experience with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. His experience in conservation law enforcement, public safety, and working with communities will be a valuable addition to our department.

Officer Burton is also a graduate of Knightstown High School, making his decision to continue serving the community in Henry County especially meaningful.

We are excited to welcome Officer Burton to the NCPD family and look forward to the experience, dedication, and professionalism he will bring to our department.

🚔 BE AWARE; DRIVE WITH CAUTION in all of our school zones, and slow down when you see the reduced 20 MPH speed signs.

Thanks to Operation Pull Over and the SAVE Project, NCPD Patrol Division will be out watching our school zones for unsafe driving and speeding.
