Our Families may not wear the uniform, but when it comes to protecting the mission, YOU have an important role too! ❤️🤍💙

🪖 WHAT IS OPSEC?
OPSEC stands for Operations Security. Simply put, it means protecting important information that could be pieced together and used to learn about military operations, movements, personnel or activities.

🔐 WHY DOES OPSEC MATTER?
Sometimes the smallest details can reveal a much bigger picture. A date here, a location there, a photo in the background or a comment about when your Service member is leaving or returning may seem harmless—but when combined with other information, it can reveal more than we intended.

🏠 FAMILIES—YOU ARE PART OF THE OPSEC TEAM!

Before you POST, SHARE, TAG or CHECK IN, stop and ask:

🇺🇸 Am I sharing specific deployment or movement dates?
🇺🇸 Does my photo show locations, schedules, documents, badges, equipment or other sensitive details?
🇺🇸 Am I sharing information about where a unit is going or when they are returning?
🇺🇸 Am I tagging a location or posting something in real time that shouldn’t be public?
🇺🇸 Did this information come from an official, approved source for public release?
🇺🇸 Does the person I am sharing this information with need to know?

❤️ When in doubt—leave it out!

We know our Families are proud of their Service members—and you should be! Just remember that protecting information is another way we protect our Service members, our Families and the mission.

The Delaware National Guard stands proudly behind our 166th Airlift Wing Airmen and the families supporting them. 🇺🇸

This week, nearly 100 Delaware Air National Guard Airmen shared heartfelt goodbyes with loved ones before departing aboard C-130H3 Hercules aircraft for a deployment to the Middle East in support of U.S. Central Command.

Deploying as a Mission Generation Force Element, this integrated team of aircrew, operations, and maintenance personnel trains and serves together to deliver tactical airlift wherever needed.

Please join us in wishing our Airmen a safe and successful mission. To their families, friends, and employers—thank you for the steadfast support that makes their service possible.

Honoring their service. Remembering their names. 🇺🇸

Earlier today, the Delaware National Guard supported a historic memorial ceremony at Wilmington-Brandywine Cemetery honoring at least 66 Revolutionary War soldiers laid to rest in a shared grave, including 28 Americans from the Rhode Island Regiment and 38 British soldiers.

Maj. Gen. James Benson, Delaware’s Adjutant General, and the Delaware National Guard’s 287th Army Band supported the remembrance alongside Maj. Gen. Andrew Chevalier, Rhode Island National Guard’s Adjutant General, recognizing the enduring connection between our states and those who served during our nation’s founding.

The ceremony featured the reading of 33 identified soldiers’ names and the unveiling of a memorial. Among those buried are 14 African American soldiers, four of whom enlisted while enslaved. Their stories remind us of the profound sacrifices behind our nation’s pursuit of liberty.

We honor their legacy by ensuring they are remembered.

Thank you to Delaware State Police, Delaware State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Wilmington Police Department, and all the other agencies who supported alongside us!

Precision under pressure. 🎯

More than 50 Delaware National Guard Soldiers and Airmen put their marksmanship skills to the test during the annual The Adjutant General’s (TAG) Match at River Road Training Site in New Castle during September drill weekend.

Service members from across Delaware competed with the SIG Sauer M17 pistol and M7 rifle in scenarios designed to challenge both accuracy and performance under stress.

The competition brought our Army and Air National Guard teammates together for a weekend of skill, focus and friendly rivalry.

Delaware National Guard Hosts 4th Annual Strike Out Stigma Softball Game 🥎

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and “Joining Your Fight: Connect to Protect” reminds us that connection and belonging truly make a difference. On Sept. 17, members of the Delaware National Guard came together for our 4th annual Strike Out Stigma softball game. A little rain didn't stop anyone from giving it their all on the field!

This year’s matchup brought high energy and friendly rivalry as Team Army went head-to-head with Team Air. Congratulations to Team Army for securing the victory, tying the overall series at 2–2!

Whether in uniform, at home, or on the field, fostering genuine relationships and checking in on your peers can save lives. Let’s continue to break the stigma, encourage open conversations, and make reaching out second nature.

Together, we can ensure every service member knows they are backed by a strong and supportive community.

CHANGE OF COMMAND | 72nd Troop Command | Aviation Battalion Task Force

The 72nd Troop Command conducted a Change of Command ceremony Sept. 12, as Lt. Col. Thomas L. Emerson relinquishes command of the Aviation Battalion Task Force to Lt. Col. James A. Letts.

Emerson began his military career in 1998 as an enlisted Soldier in the Delaware Army National Guard and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 2005. Throughout his career, he served in numerous aviation leadership and staff positions, including Aviation Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Brigade Aviation Officer, State Aviation Safety Officer and Army Aviation Support Facility Commander. His service included deployments to Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Kuwait.

Assuming command is Letts, a Wilmington native who has served more than 28 years in uniform, including prior enlisted service as an aircraft mechanic. Commissioned in 2010, he served as an Army Aviator, Company Commander, Brigade S-4 and State Aviation Safety Officer. He brings extensive aviation leadership, safety and operational experience to his new command.

Congratulations to Letts as he assumes command, and thank you to Emerson for his leadership, dedication and continued service to the Delaware Army National Guard.
