The Holloway Terrace Fire Company and Mutual Aid, units responded to the Croda Atlas Point facility around 3:45pm yesterday afternoon for an automatic alarm. Upon arrival, plant personnel advised first responders of an ethylene oxide leak originating from a pump. Based on this information, the response was upgraded and additional HazMat resources were requested.

The affected valve was isolated by plant personnel, stopping the release. Multiple air monitoring methods—including fence line monitoring, portable detection equipment, and bridge-mounted monitors—were utilized. All monitors confirmed that no readings were detected off-site and there was no hazard to the surrounding community.
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is currently investigating the incident.

Deputy Chief Emmell held the Holloway Terrace Command. Units including 20-4, D20, 208B, U-20, and TSU-20 operated on the scene.

📚 April is National 911 Education Month

☎️ While no two 9-1-1 calls are the same, all 9-1-1 calls in New Castle County will begin the same way: “New Castle County 9-1-1, what’s the address of the emergency?”

📍Getting your precise location helps us make sure help is sent exactly where it’s needed, without delay.

👤 From there, we’ll ask for your name and phone number. Then we’ll ask you to tell us exactly what happened.

📝 Based on the information you provide, we will ask a series of questions to get more information about the incident. Please know that these questions do not delay response! We have a call started and we’re relaying this information to our dispatchers, who are sharing it with police, fire and EMS. These details help on-scene responders be better prepared to help you.

📋 Stay on the line and follow the call-takers instructions. We’ll let you know when it’s okay to hang up.

🌍 If English is not your preferred language, let the call-taker know at the beginning of the call! We can get an interpreter on the line to help.

We understand that when you call 9-1-1, you’re in a stressful situation—and every second can feel like a hour. We’re here for you. Answering our questions as clearly as you can helps us get you the help you need as quickly as possible.
