Our small town showed up today for our free books in honor of Mrs. Dolly Parton. 120 people came to our little library, 120 people of all ages came to share in mourning the loss of a wonderfully beautiful, kind, intelligent, and talented woman.

We can't thank everyone enough for their continuous support of our little library. We never imagined so many people would come out to support Dolly's love of literacy, but the loss spans generations as we saw today.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and the shared love of books and Dolly today. If you missed our free book day and still wish to show your support, you may donate to the Craig County Public Library Dolly Imagination Library to ensure children in our community receive books every month.

Thank you again everyone. We hope each of you found a book to love and share.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 26th, the Craig County Public Library invites you to honor Dolly Parton by continuing to spread her love of literacy and education.

The Craig County Public Library is honored to offer Dolly's Imagination Library to the children in our community. Because we believe everyone should have access to books and reading, just as Dolly believed, we invite you to shop our Book Barns tomorrow from 10am to 7pm for free books.

Dolly's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, people make memorial contributions to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to support her lifelong literacy mission. Your donation may be made to a specific location to help children have access to books in your own community.

The Craig County Public Library wishes to help ensure our community safety during the extreme heat.
Please feel free to stop by, grab a bottle of water, use a computer, read a book, and cool off in our AC.
Remember the workers out in the heat, VDOT, local farmers, first responders, our Amazon and USPS Summer Feeding delivery drivers, and many more. Offer water to workers if able and know how to recognize and act when signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke are displayed.
Stay safe and stay cool everyone!
*Due to the EXTREME HEAT the Craig County Public Library first Friday book sale will happen as usual this Friday, July 3rd, however, we will NOT open the book barns or allow patrons/shoppers in the book barns at this time. You may shop the books and movies in the library, but again, NOT IN THE BOOK BARNS.

Craig County Public Library Amazon Home Delivery Food Boxes UPDATE WEEK 1 DELIVERY (JUNE 16TH FOOD BOXES)

I apologize for just getting to some individuals as I did not have good phone service this weekend. However, I am aware of problems with the first food box delivery and need a list of individuals with food box issues.

Please feel free to comment below if you are comfortable doing so or send Michaela Crawford a private message if you prefer privacy. Please message if you fall into one of the following criteria:

1. Did not receive any of your food boxes (with the number of boxes missing)
2. Did not receive all of your food boxes (with the number of boxes missing and received)
3. Received more boxes than you should have (with the number of boxes you should have received and the number of boxes you did receive)
**REMEMBER! Each child you registered will receive one food box per week so if you enrolled 2 children you should receive 2 boxes per week.**

I will turn this information into Feeding Southwest Virginia and will have a response soon about the missing food boxes. I apologize for not having further information, but once enrollment is completed the library staff unfortunately does not have any information regarding the status of registered participants deliveries. We can only relay information regarding issues with said deliveries. I am currently unaware if those individuals missing their first week's delivery will receive them. I do know the New Castle Post Office does not have any food boxes at the post office awaiting pick up.

At this time I will have to wait for a response from Feeding Southwest Virginia after they have received a response from Amazon. An email has been sent to Feeding Southwest Virginia as of this morning so please hang tight everyone and I will deliver the information as soon as possible!

Craig County Public Schools (Monday-Thursday) June 1st-July 10th Meals must be eaten on-site in the CCPS cafeteria, for ages birth-18 years of age, regardless of school enrollment. Breakfast is served from 8:30am-9:00am, Lunch from 11am-11:30am). Meals are first come, first serve and again must be eaten on site.

If you missed the first deadline for the Craig County Public Library Amazon Home Delivery Summer Feeding Program with No Kid Hungry and Feeding Southwest Virginia have no fear! There is a 2nd registration deadline! Register by June 22nd!

If you missed the June 8th deadline you will not receive the first 2 food box distributions, but if you register before June 22nd you will receive the remaining 6 food box distributions.

Remember, registration is for those under 18 years of age unless they are 18+ and still registered in homeschool or public/private school.

Registration is for the HOME DELIVERY OPTION! Not the Grab and Go option! Each child you are registering must be registered individually. Be sure your address is correctly entered (as well as your other information) or you may be disqualified for the program.

You may not use ANY other summer feeding program in our county or surrounding counties. The P-EBT does not count as a summer feeding program and children are eligible to receive both P-EBT and our summer feeding program.

Those already registered can anticipate food box deliveries to begin the week of June 16th. The Craig County Public Library Summer Reading Program is up and running! Join our Summer Reading Program by logging into an existing account or creating a new account on Beanstack.

Our 2026 Summer Reading Program has 3 age groups:
Youth- ages 0-12
Teen- ages 13-17
Adult- ages 18+

Log the books you read on Beanstack or stop by the Craig County Public Library for a paper reading log if you prefer. We have fabulously awesome prizes in our library treasure box (there's Sour Patch Kids in there y'all), new books and audiobooks to discover and win as prizes from our book barns aaannnnnddddd 1 incredibly lucky winner from EACH age group will be chosen at the end of the summer for the GRAND PRIZE!! (Prize TBD)

The Summer Reading Program is open NOW! Reading logs must be completed online or submitted (if on paper) no later than August 1st to be eligible for the grand prize drawing.

The Craig County Public Library invites you to register your child(ren) enrolled in school (homeschool as well) under the age of 18 (unless they are still enrolled in school, not college) for the Amazon Summer Feeding Program!
This year the Summer Feeding Program is slightly different, but BETTER! Instead of offering food for your child(ren) 5 days/week, this year your child(ren) will receive food and milk 7 days/week.
There are a few rules for registration:
1. Your child(ren) must be under 18 years of age unless they are still enrolled as a school age student. Children younger than school age may register as well.
2. Your child(ren) may register for ONE summer feeding program. If they are registered for more than one summer feeding program, even if it is a different county or a pick up and go program, they will be dropped from the Amazon Summer Feeding Program. This also means if your child(ren) lives in more than one home, they may only register for the food to be delivered to ONE home only.
4. You must live in the 24127, 24128, 24070, or 24131 zip codes to register with the Craig County Public Library Amazon Summer Feeding Program.
5. Any child(ren) attending summer school and receiving meals at school may not register for summer feeding until the completion of summer school.
There are 2 registration deadlines this year:
1. June 8th
2. June 22nd (for children attending summer school)
Craig County children will receive 8 distributions of food boxes delivered to their registration address from Amazon beginning June 16th-August 4th.
If you have issues with your food boxes (damaged food items, didn't receive at all/didn't receive the correct number of boxes, food items missing, etc.), please report these issues to the Craig County Public Library via one of the following methods:
1. Call during normal business hours (540) 864-8978
2. Email [email protected]
3. Facebook message the Craig County Public Library or Michaela Crawford
Do not contact Amazon! They will not have any information for you!
Our flyers have a QR code available for registration or you can use one of the above methods (call, email, or FB message) for registration or online @ feedingswva.org/summer-food-service-program/ and choose the option for Home Delivery Enrollment.

This coming Saturday is a BIG day for Craig County and the Craig County Public Library wouldn't dare not show out for the big day as well!

Make your way up to the Craig County Public Library from 9am-Noon for our annual Friends of the Library (FOL) Plant Swap Day. FREE plant trimmings, clippings, and seedlings! Our book barns will be open and all items are FREE! Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. If you have any plant clippings or seedlings you wish to donate donations may be dropped off the day of the event but no sooner than Friday, May 8th.

Be sure to see the library Program Coordinator, Michaela Crawford to learn how to make your backyard more bird friendly through our FlightPath grant as well as register your child(ren) for the 2026 Summer Feeding Program and Summer Reading Program.

Following our Plant Swap Day, join us in hosting our special guest author, Bruce Ingram for our 2026 Annual Friends of the Library Meeting from 2pm-4pm. Bruce is the author of The James River Guide, The New River Guide, Living the Locavore Lifestyle, and many more. Learn about land conservation and preservation, foraging, hunting, fishing, storing food, and living off the land responsibly with Bruce as your guide. Light refreshments to follow. The event is open to current/former/potential Friends of the Library members and the general public. FOL membership applications may be completed at this time (cash or check accepted for dues.) Bruce will have books available for sale (cash only) and is open for autographs.

This Saturday is shaping up to be a fun-filled day with the biggest signs a warmer spring and summer are right around the corner with the opening of the Farmer's Market (10am-2pm) and Hooked on Fishing (Located @ Pines Campground, registration 8am-1pm for ages 3-15)! Shop and support local this weekend and don't forget to grab something for Mom while you're taking a gander! Be sure to bring the camera for a picture of your big catch for Mom as well!

This weekend Craig County, Va and of course the Craig County Public Library are the places to be! From the Pines to the Farmer's Market to the Craig County Public Library, there's just so much room for activities! Be there or be square!

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform our community of the death of a dedicated member of our Friends of the Library (FOL) and dear friend, Mrs. Winnie Walter.

Mrs. Winnie dedicated her time, passion, and always brought a positive, fresh energy with her beautiful, smiling face to nearly every library event and fundraiser, joined by her loving husband of 8 years, Martin Walter. Winnie and Martin both quickly became pillars of our Friends of the Library group and gained the respect and affection of our staff, board, patrons, FOL, and other volunteers.

Words cannot express how greatly she already is and will continue to be missed by our little library. The Craig County Public Library board, staff, FOL, and volunteers aren't simply friends or co-workers, we are family. Family sharing the same love of literacy, education, and community.

Mrs. Winnie dedicated 43 years of her life to education and literacy as a teacher in Germany Our library was greatly blessed when she chose us. She was not just an FOL member but our good friend as well. Her friendly smile, kind heart, dedication, and contagious laugh will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

We thank you for your service to our little library Mrs. Winnie and Mr. Martin. We ask for continued thoughts and well wishes for Mrs. Winnie's husband, Martin, her loved ones, and our little library. We will continue to spread the joy of learning and love of literacy, honoring Mrs. Winnie's passion.

The Craig County Public Library would like to request a county-wide read today in honor of Mrs. Winnie. Choose a book for yourself, your children, your pets, anyone you know and love. Spend some time snuggling and reading. We would love to see pictures of those honoring Mrs. Winnie and reading together. Please join us in sharing a story today to continue Mrs. Winnie's legacy.
