🎉🚨 A milestone moment for the students of Howard High School of Technology – Wildcats in Wilmington, Delaware! 🚨🎉

Congratulations to the students of the Legal Support Career Path who successfully completed the APCO Emergency Telecommunicator Course and earned their certifications.

NCCDE911 proudly presented certificates to students who gained foundational knowledge of emergency communications, telecommunicator responsibilities, and the technology utilized within a modern 911 center—opening doors to future careers in public safety and emergency communications.

✅ For the first time since Howard High School students began participating in APCO certification training, every student earned a passing grade and achieved certification.
✅ The program also celebrated the first mother-and-son duo to become certified in APCO & the Emergency Telecommunicator Course, creating a truly special accomplishment.

Last week, members of NCCDE911 D- Shift had the opportunity to present a plaque to DSP RECOM C-Shift recognizing the extraordinary teamwork, coordination, and professionalism displayed during the tragic events surrounding the loss of Corporal Matthew T. “Ty” Snook on December 23, 2025.

This recognition serves as a reminder that even in the most difficult moments, the partnership between NCCDE911 and DSP RECOM remained steadfast — working together to support responders, maintain critical operations, and serve the community with compassion and professionalism.

The plaque, accepted on behalf of DSP RECOM C-Shift will stand as a symbol of the partnership between our centers and the dedication shown by all communications professionals who answered the call that day.

We were proud to welcome Pack & Troop 123 St. George’s, DE, Scouting America to NCCDE911 for a behind-the-scenes tour of our center! ☎️

The group got an inside look at how a 911 call is handled—from the moment it’s received to dispatching help in the field. They asked great questions and showed a real interest in how public safety works.

To make the visit even more hands-on, they also had the opportunity to practice CPR—an essential life-saving skill that can make all the difference in an emergency.

A big thank you to our Training Coordinator, Yvette Price, for leading an engaging and informative tour!

Spring cleaning tip: go ahead and hang up on these calls. 🌸📞

They’re back… and yes, it’s those police impersonation scammers again.

We’ve recently seen an increase in scammers pretending to be Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police and other law enforcement agencies, targeting unsuspecting victims. We want to remind our community how these scams work and share important information to help you protect yourself and your loved ones.

🔍 How the Scam Works:
Scammers may call using the actual names of NCCPD officers or officers from other agencies, claiming you have outstanding warrants or unpaid fines. They often rely on fear and intimidation, threatening arrest or legal action if immediate payment isn’t made. Law enforcement will NEVER demand payment over the phone or threaten arrest if you don’t pay.

🛑 Red Flags:
• Unsolicited calls demanding immediate payment or personal information
• Threats of arrest for unpaid fines or warrants
• Requests for payment using wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency

🔒 How to Protect Yourself and help stop the scams.
• Verify the Caller: Hang up and contact the police using a trusted number. The New Castle County Police non-emergency number is (302) 573-2800
• Protect Your Information: Never share Social Security numbers or financial details over the phone
• Report Suspicious Calls: Notify your local police department.
• Share this information and trust your instincts

This week, New Castle County is proud to recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

Every day, our Emergency Communications team answers hundreds of calls from residents facing emergencies, uncertainty, and urgent need. With professionalism and focus, they gather critical information and help ensure that police, fire, and EMS crews can respond quickly and effectively.

The scale of their work is remarkable. In 2025, they handled:
📞 575,420 total calls
🚔 118,243 police incidents
🚒 175,992 fire/EMS incidents

And the pace hasn’t slowed. In just the first three months of 2026, they’ve already managed more than 125,000 calls for service.

Their work requires quick thinking, clear communication, and a steady presence during some of the most difficult moments people experience.

Please join us as we thank our telecommunicators for the essential role they play in keeping New Castle County safe every day. 💙Thank you New Castle County 911
