September is National Preparedness Month and this year's theme says it all: Americans Stand Ready.

We respond to emergencies every day. And we know firsthand: the families who are prepared handle those moments differently. When our community is ready, fewer lives are at risk and every second counts for more.

All month, we'll be sharing simple, practical tips to help you and your family be ready before you ever need to be. Because when you're prepared, you're not just protecting yourself, you're making Rockland stronger for everyone.

What's one thing you do to stay prepared?

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. This is a global day of remembrance, action, and hope observed in more than 40 countries.

This year's theme is 25 Years On. Still Needed. It's a reminder that behind every statistic is a person. Our neighbors, family members, and friends. And it's a call to keep talking, keep learning, and keep showing up.

As paramedics, we see the impact of this crisis firsthand. Overdose is devastating, and it is also preventable. We are proud to play an active role in that effort through our Leave-Behind Narcan Program, which allows our paramedics to provide free Narcan kits directly to community members when responding to overdose calls.

As we close out a month dedicated to highlighting the partners who make Rockland's emergency response network stronger, today we want to shine a light on one that is doing vital work in this space. Rockland Council Prevention & Recovery has served Rockland County for over 50 years, offering everything from overdose prevention and peer recovery support to family services and referrals. They are a vital resource for anyone who needs help or doesn't know where to start.

To anyone who is struggling, or who loves someone who is: you are not alone. Call or text the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or reach out to Rockland County Prevention & Recovery at 845-215-9788 or by email at [email protected] and visit their website https://www.rcadd.org/ for more information.

We remember those we've lost. We act for those still fighting.

Today is Women's Equality Day.

The women of Rockland Paramedics show up every single day on the toughest calls, in the middle of the night, when it matters most. They are paramedics, supervisors, leaders, and an essential part of everything we do.

We are proud to work alongside you. Thank you for everything you bring to this team and to the people of Rockland County. 💙

The call doesn't end when we arrive at the hospital.

The relationship between Rockland Paramedics and the hospitals we serve is built on communication, coordination, and a shared commitment to our patients. From the first assessment in the field to the moment of handoff, it's one continuous chain of care.

We're proud to work alongside the dedicated teams at WMC Health-Good Samaritan Hospital and Montefiore Nyack every day and grateful for the partnerships that make the best possible patient care possible.

When the call comes in, we answer it together.

Our paramedics work alongside Rockland's fire departments every single day whether it is a structure fire, vehicle accident, or medical emergency. Whatever the call, our crews and their crews show up as one.

That kind of coordination is built on trust, training, and years of working together side by side.

Shoutout to all of Rockland's fire departments. We've got your back out there. 🚒

Thank you to RPS Lt. Liam Mallon for teaching a paramedic assist class last night for South Orangetown Ambulance Corp. during their monthly meeting. We always appreciate the opportunity to work and train with our partner agencies in the county. This type of training facilitates smooth interactions between our agencies and ultimately better patient outcomes.
