DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS TO LIFE FOR THE
FIRST DEGREE MURDER OF TWO FAMILY MEMBERS

NEW CITY, N.Y. – District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced today that Alan Abad, a/k/a Alina Abad (6/7/05), of Westwood, New Jersey, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on a previous plea of guilty to the entire indictment charging the crimes of Murder in the First Degree and two counts of Murder in the Second Degree in Rockland County Court on March 24, 2026, before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo. The defendant was sentenced on each count of the indictment to 25 years to life in prison by the Court. The Office of the District Attorney recommended the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole on the Murder in the First Degree count of the indictment and 25 years to life in prison on each of the counts of Murder in the Second Degree to run consecutive to each other. Had the maximum sentence been imposed as requested by the People it would have ensured that the defendant would spend the rest of their life in prison. However, the sentence imposed by the Court of 25 years to life will make the defendant eventually eligible for parole.

On February 15, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., while at 4 Gesner Drive, Spring Valley, Rockland County, New York, the defendant caused the deaths of his two aunts, Evelyn Augilar-Agustin and Anabelly Aguilar. The defendant caused blunt force trauma to Evelyn Aguilar-Agustin’s head, face and abdomen, which caused her death. The defendant also caused blunt force trauma to Anabelly Aguilar’s head and upper neck, causing cervical spine fractures, brain injuries and hemorrhages, which caused her death.

“The defendant brutally and senselessly murdered two innocent women who were members of the defendant’s very own family. My office vigorously advocated on their behalf and sought the maximum penalty allowed under the law. I offer my sincere condolences to their family and thank my prosecutors and our law enforcement partners for their dedication and professionalism in seeking justice for the victims.”

The investigation was conducted by the Spring Valley Police Department with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino and First Assistant District Attorney Matthew Martinez prosecuted the case.
