Thursday evening at approximately 1930 hours, companies 5 and 9 were dispatched to NGC Industries for a building fire. Chief 502 arrived on scene to find smoke showing, confirming dispatch.
Upon initial observation and discussions with employees, it was determined the box should be immediately upgraded to second alarm, which brought in companies 15, and 17.
Engine 5-2 and tanker 5 arrived at the same time. 5-2 crew pulled 2 hand lines and went to work. The Tanker supplied the Engine. Squad 9 arrived to asst the engine crew. They added a 3 inch line and high rise packs to add to fire suppression. Engine 15-2 took the hydrant and filled tankers for the nursing operations.
Manpower was special called from companies 2, 12, Lyco 13 and Air 74 to help switch out suppression and for cylinders.
The warehouse, being filled with large bales of recycled paper and cardboard, was emptied by both employees and fire personnel, using forklifts, payloaders, and a teleahandler to pull out the bales from the building. This took the rotating crews close to 16 hours on scene to complete.
I would like to thank all the company's that came to assist, those that were able to stay the entire time and Mifflinburg who provided apparatus for standby during the fire.
I would also like to thank the employees of NGC who assisted and the public who donated food and drink while we were on scene.
