Emergency Health Services Federation

Emergency Health Services Federation “We are commitment driven to enhance quality EMS in southcentral PA.” We are the Regional EMS Council for the eight counties of Southcentral Pennsylvania.

Our mission is to develop, maintain, and improve the EMS system for Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York Counties. Although we have been a designated Regional EMS Council since the inception of the initial EMS Act, we were an EMS-centric organization for over 30 years. You might know us as the folks you call with questions about your continuing education credit

s or the next step in the EMSOF process. We are the individuals who come to your station to inspect your organization as part of PA EMS Licensure. We are also the faces you see when you are taking your practical examination. But did you know that we were the group who lead the way with the Statewide Recruitment Initiative, or the BLS CPAP program? Or the work that we do to improve our region's preparedness and that we've coordinated two deployments of resources from our region for Katrina, then Gustav. Our region is made up of some new faces, and some very seasoned personnel. Our office is no different. We have some individuals you've dealt with for decades and we have great new staff also. We don't talk much about our organization, as we have created a culture of putting you first. Our region has been impacted by several line of duty deaths, the Nickel Mines School shooting, and TMI. However, it never ceases to amaze everyone that the providers and our staff working together seem to always handle the events professionally with an overflow of compassion. We stick together when it matters. As we live in this area, we have a personal stake in meeting our mission statement.

“We are commitment driven to enhance quality EMS in Southcentral PA.”

As we purposely try to function as a lean organization with less than 10 fulltime staff, we rely heavily on the dozens of volunteers serving on our many committees. And we are always looking for more volunteers. We are not content staying the course. We want to be known as the best EMS System in the country.

Today at the State Capitol, we proudly celebrated the Annual 25-Year Star Award ceremony, honoring the continued dedication and service of EMS providers. Nearly 200 providers submitted to receive the 25-Year Award this year, with close to 80 recipients present to receive their stars in recognition of 25 years of commitment to emergency medical services. EHSF was also proud to have two of our own among this year’s award recipients.

We also took time to recognize former EHSF Executive Director C. Steve Lyle for his outstanding leadership and the lasting impact he made in shaping the organization. We extend our sincere gratitude and wish him health, happiness, and fulfillment in his retirement.

Emergency Health Services Federation thanks all EMS providers for their unwavering dedication, professionalism, and service to the communities they protect every day.
