This week, we proudly recognize EMS Week and the dedicated volunteer men and women of New Deal Fire/EMS who answer the call for our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our EMS providers are volunteers. They leave their homes, families, jobs, dinners, holidays, and warm beds in the middle of the night to respond when someone in our community needs help — expecting nothing in return. No paycheck. No compensation. Just people helping people because that’s what small towns do.
These are the same folks you see at the grocery store, school events, church on Sunday, and Friday night ballgames. When the pager goes off, they step away from their own lives to take care of their neighbors.
From medical emergencies and wrecks on the highway to checking on someone’s grandmother at 2 in the morning, they continue to answer the call with compassion, professionalism, and heart.
Volunteer EMS in rural communities only works because people are willing to serve others before themselves. We are incredibly proud of every member who puts on the uniform and answers that call.
This EMS Week, if you know a responder, firefighter, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, or first responder volunteer — thank them. Their sacrifice means more than most people will ever realize.
