PRESCRIBED FIRE NOTIFICATION: Tuesday, March 10

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service plans to conduct prescribed fire operations today, March 10, in the following counties: Burlington, Cumberland, Monmouth & Ocean.

๐Ÿ”— View the Forest Fire Serviceโ€™s Prescribed Fire Notifications map to see active and upcoming prescribed fire activities: https://dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/wildfire/prescribed-fire-notifications/

This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. If in doubt about the source of smoke or fire, call 9-1-1 or 877-WARN-DEP (877-927-6337).

ABOUT PRESCRIBED FIRE
There are multiple benefits to prescribed fire, which is a safe, effective and efficient means of managing the buildup of forest fuels that may contribute to the start and spread of a wildfire. By actively eliminating sources of fuel that exacerbate forest fire risks through a prescribed fire program, the Forest Fire Service reduces risk to New Jersey residents, visitors and the environment.

Prescribed fire improves habitat for plants and animals, reduce the presence of damaging insects and ticks, and recycle nutrients into the soil. In addition, prescribed fire is an important part of the stateโ€™s carbon defense strategy. Allowing experts to choose the intensity, timing and interval of fire across the landscape may help prevent a larger uncontrolled wildfire, which would contribute to significant carbon loss. Typically, the implementation of most prescribed fire take place between February and early April.

Plumsted Township Blizzard Warning - Update #1

Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency for New Jersey, beginning at noon Sunday, February 22nd. As the forecast materializes, Plumsted Township must prepare for the possibility of a severe winter storm event. All residents are encouraged to start planning and preparing at this time for potential snow, accompanied by blizzard-like weather conditions. As the precise impact of the storm evolves overnight, Plumsted Township officials will continue to monitor the storm predictions and will post announcements and updates as necessary.

The Plumsted Police Department requests the removal of vehicles and obstructions from the roadways to facilitate successful plowing operations. It is further requested for the downtown area to have vehicles moved to the municipal parking lots for the duration of the storm operations.

Please ensure snow is not removed or placed into the roadways.

Suggestions for storm preparation include ensuring that you have sufficient non-perishable foods, bottled water, snow shovels, rock salt, calcium chloride, batteries and required prescription medicine.

Keep phones, backup batteries and other electronics fully charged at this time. Gather flashlights and make sure fresh batteries are available. Also, ensure medical devices and their back up batteries are fully charged.

You may also visit www.ready.gov and review their recommendations on preparing for a snowstorm and what to do in the case of a power outage.

Please continue to frequently check the official Plumsted Township website at www.plumsted.org, as well as the Plumsted and Plumsted Township OEM pages for urgent messages and storm updates.

Dial 9-1-1 for emergencies only. The Plumsted Police Department's non-emergency telephone number is (609) 758-7185.

02/22/2026

Plumsted residents are advised to stay off the roads for the duration of the storm. All residents are advised to move their parked vehicles from the side of the road onto their property, especially in the downtown area.

๐Ÿฅถ Dangerously cold wind chills between -10ยฐ to -20ยฐ are expected Saturday night into Sunday morning (as low as -30ยฐ in the Poconos). Such extreme wind chills are uncommon in our region, and can cause hypothermia or frostbite in as little as 30 mins if you are not dressed appropriately. This event could rival some of the lowest wind chills experienced in the last 10-20 years.

To make matters worse, high winds will accompany the extreme cold (widespread gusts 40-50 mph, up to 60 mph near the coast). We are very concerned about the potential for power outages to coincide with some of the coldest air we've experienced this winter as temperatures plummet into the single digits.

The magnitude of winds we are forecasting typically produce anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand power outages in our area. Please take this cold seriously!
