This is a 5 over 2 lightweight wood frame mixed use apartment complex, meaning 5 stories of living space and 2 stories of commercial and parking space. Looking down from the roof you can see this is the “donut hole” of the structure. The building is 91 feet tall with over 400 apartments! The questions you must ask yourself are what’s your plan for trapped occupants rescue? How’s your portable ladder skills, rescue rope skills, aerial placement, and knowledge of your building layout and systems? When it comes to engine ops, you must know hose packs & equipment, standpipe ops, rope stretches, and stairway designations. If you’re unsure of any of this, you’re already losing on the Fireground.

Do you know what a Ground scraper is? Is your department prepared for these massive Fireground challenges? The EverettFireLocal143 has tons of these replacing legacy buildings in their city and knew they needed to train and adjust their operations and equipment set-ups. They brought in On Scene Training Associates in for 8 straight days of lecture and hands on in a mixed use building with over 400 apartments, stores , and parking garages that was partially occupied and partially still under construction. Real hook ups, hose pack stretches, searches, and rig placement has these hard hitters headed in the right direction! Jack Murphy Chief Jack Murphy led our team with Steve Barton and Aaron Heller assisting. If you’re interested in a program like this in your area please let us know.

Over the past few years, the Jimmy Ellis Firefighter Foundation has had the absolute pleasure to build upon the relationship that Jimmy had with Morning Pride. Jimmy was very much involved with providing feedback and constructive feedback to Morning Pride, its Vendors, and other Fire Departments building their specs.

We are very fortunate that our relationship with Morning Pride has afforded us to outfit our instructors in gear, designed by us. We are proud to wear this gear lettered for the Foundation and can’t thank Morning Pride and Shaun Teacher enough.
