INSIGHTS Intervention

INSIGHTS Intervention Proven to enhance parenting, classroom management, and the social-emotional and academic skills of children.

With the help of our puppets, we teach how differences in children’s behavior are often related to their unique personality.

INSIGHTS Into Children’s Temperament works —and the outcomes last!

In a randomized clinical trial, INSIGHTS was conducted in kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms and resulting in impressive immediate results.

Recently an independent follow-up study was conducted by MDRC.

The positive impacts on reading and math that INSIGHTS produced in the primary grades continue into middle school for children from low-income families.

In addition, the same children had fewer special education placements.

I am delighted to post a book review about "A Child At a Time" written by my Jamaican colleague, Professor Loraine Cook: https://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/art-leisure/20260308/quietly-transformative-contribution-caribbean-education-and-child Dr. Cook's book details the impacts INSIGHTS Into Children's Temperament has had in Jamaica. The intervention has been ongoing in Jamaica since 2013. Wow! That's a long time.

At a time when classroom discipline, school violence, and parenting practices are under intense national scrutiny, this book invites Jamaica to reconsider a fundamental question: What if children are not “misbehaving” but misunderstood?

Last weekend was a big one for INSIGHTS. Sandee presented a new study at the Occasional Temperament Conference at Texas A & M. The results showed that the new, technology-enhanced INSIGHTS was even more effective in improving children’s reading skills and sustained attention and in reducing their disruptive behavior problems than the previous in-person version.

Another presentation at the temperament conference by Kathleen Rudasill explained how INSIGHTS was effective in rural midwestern communities, especially for boys. Unfortunately, Kathy was not able to attend, so Sandee presented on her behalf.

Meanwhile, back in Connecticut, Heather Nunes exhibited INSIGHTS’ afterschool program at the Connecticut Network for Children and Youth conference.

In 2013-14, I was a Fulbright Scholar in Jamaica because the country's education leaders asked me to bring INSIGHTS to the island. The attached picture shows a group of parents in an INSIGHTS session. INSIGHTS has been in Jamaica since then due to the persistence of Professor Loraine Cook and others like Dr. Sharline Cole. But now, Jamaica need help. While living in the country, I learned that Jamaicans are extraordinarily resilient but the devastation that Hurricane Melissa did to the island is beyond what any country should handle alone. Please be generous to Jamaica in whatever way you can.
