As EMS Week 2026 comes to an end, so does the remarkable career of a man who has dedicated his life to serving and caring for the people of Southern Wisconsin. Chief Dan Nufer of Green County EMS is retiring after 20 years of service.
Over the years, Chief Nufer answered countless calls across numerous districts, caring for patients and supporting EMS personnel whenever needed. His calm presence on scene and unwavering professionalism never went unnoticed. For many of us, the sense of relief that came when Dan arrived to assist cannot truly be measured.
“Thank you” hardly begins to express the gratitude owed for the selflessness, leadership, and dedication Chief Nufer has shown throughout his career. He has not only served his community, he taught and guided so many of us along the way.
We wish Chief Nufer all the best in retirement and in the new chapter ahead. May there be a little less chaos, a little more relaxation, and plenty of time to enjoy life beyond the pager.
Thank you, Chief Nufer, for the lessons, the leadership, and the example you set for all of us through the years.
