🎯 Al Baxter Memorial Scholarship Shoot at the Fredericksburg Sportsman's Club beginning at 12:00 p.m. Enjoy a trap shoot, meal, games, and prizes while supporting the scholarship fund.

🎉 Fredericksburg Park & Recreation 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗼 at the Fredericksburg Community Center at 6:00 p.m. Grab your friends and enjoy an evening of bingo and fun!

This might be one of the biggest American flags you’ll find on the side of a building in Iowa.

You’ll find it in Alta Vista, a small Chickasaw County town where the flag overlooks the community’s Veterans Memorial Park.

It’s one of those small-town Iowa sights that makes you stop and look twice — especially from the air.

Today, we remember Dolly Parton as one of the songs she beautifully brought to life was “Church in the Wildwood,” a song inspired by the very place we’re lucky enough to have right here in Chickasaw County--the Little Brown Church in the Vale near Nashua.

Written by William Pitts in 1857, the song was inspired by the peaceful valley where the church now stands. More than a century later, Dolly’s voice helped carry that song to generations of listeners.

Today, it feels especially meaningful to hear her sing about the little brown church in the vale.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for the music. 🤍
