π Big news for food security in New Haven!
We're proud to share that the City of New Haven has committed $350,000 to support community-based food assistance programs in its FY 2026β2027 budget β passed by the Board of Alders on May 26.
This funding will go directly to work that matters: stocking local pantries and soup kitchens with healthy food, supporting school break grocery distributions for New Haven families, expanding SNAP outreach, and improving infrastructure so our member organizations can serve more people with dignity.
None of this would have been possible without YOU β the dozens of community members who testified, wrote letters, and called their Alders. Your voices were heard.
CFAN is deeply grateful to Mayor Justin Elicker for championing this allocation, and to Board of Alders President Tyisha Walker-Myers, Finance Committee Chair Adam Marchand, Co-Chair Sal Punzo, and the full Board of Alders for their leadership and compassion throughout this process.
Together, we're building a more just and equitable food system in Greater New Haven. π
