The New Haven Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the New Haven Fire Department, the Kochera family, and all those mourning the loss of Firefighter/Paramedic Thomas “TJ” Kochera.

TJ dedicated nearly a decade of service to the City of New Haven, answering the call whenever his community needed him. As a firefighter and paramedic, he saved countless lives, cared for those facing emergencies, and earned the respect of fellow first responders throughout the region. His professionalism, compassion, and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on the people he served and the brothers and sisters who served beside him.

The loss of a public servant who devoted his life to helping others is felt throughout the entire first responder community. Today, we stand with our family in the New Haven Fire Department as they grieve the loss of a dedicated firefighter, paramedic, husband, father, friend, and brother.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and all members of the New Haven Fire Department during this difficult time.

Rest easy, TJ. Your service, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.

ARREST MADE IN ARMED ROBBERY INVESTIGATION

A reminder that timing matters.

Surveillance footage captured Barry Silberberg with his face fully visible before he attempted to conceal his identity during the armed robbery of A to Z Deli & Groceries (A to Z Mart), 738 Orchard Street.

Officer Zullo & Officer Marin responded to and investigated the initial incident. The case was subsequently assigned to the New Haven Police Department’s Robbery & Burglary Unit, who conducted the follow-up investigation that led to the identification and arrest of Silberberg.

Silberberg was arrested and charged with Robbery in the First Degree (Deadly Weapon).

Through surveillance footage, investigative techniques, and evidence gathered throughout the investigation, officers & detectives were able to identify the suspect and secure an arrest.

By the time the mask went up, the cameras had already made the introduction.

The New Haven Police Department thanks all personnel involved for their diligent work in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.
