☀️ **STAY SAFE IN THE EXTREME HEAT** ☀️

With dangerously hot temperatures in the forecast, East Central Fire & EMS reminds everyone to take extra precautions. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially for children, older adults, outdoor workers, athletes and those with medical conditions.

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, do not wait until you feel thirsty.
🏠 Spend time in air conditioning whenever possible.
🕒 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
👕 Wear lightweight, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing.
🚗 **Never leave children, pets or vulnerable adults inside a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.**
🤝 Check on elderly family members, neighbors and anyone who may not have access to air conditioning.

Watch for signs of **heat exhaustion**, including heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or muscle cramps. Move the person to a cooler location, loosen clothing and offer small sips of water.

**Heat stroke is a medical emergency.** If someone becomes confused, passes out, has a seizure or has very hot skin, call **911 immediately** and begin cooling them while help is on the way.

Please take care of yourself, your family and your neighbors during this stretch of extreme heat.

The East Central Fire & EMS family extends our deepest thoughts and heartfelt sympathy to Parkview EMS Wabash, the family of Medic Mike Oberg, his friends, coworkers, and all who knew and served alongside him.

The loss of a first responder is felt far beyond one department. It is felt across the entire public safety family. Medics, firefighters, dispatchers, nurses, officers, and all who answer the call carry weight that many never see. Today, we stand with Parkview EMS Wabash in this time of loss, remembrance, and grief.

To Mike’s family and the Parkview EMS Wabash team: please know you are not alone. You are in our thoughts, and you have the support of your brothers and sisters across the emergency services community.

And to anyone who may be struggling: please reach out. There is strength in asking for help, and there are people ready to listen.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. Veterans and service members can call 988, then press 1, or text 838255 for the Veterans Crisis Line. The Crisis Text Line is also available by texting HOME to 741741.

Rest easy, Mike. We’ll take it from here.
