Today is World Mental Health Day. Horizons classrooms all use RULER, a social-emotional learning program developed at Yale. RULER helps us learn to recognize our emotions, and to develop strategies for regulating those emotions, by providing us with a “language” to talk about our feelings. One of our favorite RULER tools is the Mood Meter, where students and staff track and share their emotions every day. 💛💚🧡💜

He's currently a Teach For America Ignite Fellow for the 2026–2027 academic year. This was his first summer with Horizons at Foote, and we're looking forward to many more! 👏🏽👏🏿

We're celebrating Shaun, a 7th grader at Amistad Middle School, as he gears up for his first year playing with the Seahawks! 🏈 His mom writes: "This year, Shaun has been showing out on both offense AND defense, giving it his all every time he steps on the field! 💪🏾🏈 He truly loves this sport, and it’s been amazing watching his passion, confidence, and dedication grow. Today we're erupting - with celebration for Ms. Katie! 🌋 2026 was Ms. Katie's fifth summer - plus school year activities, STEAM Days, and more. During the year she teaches third grade at Ross/Woodward. Ms. Katie's first grade classroom was joyful this summer, creating a space for her students learn, try new things, and grow into their best selves. Set, hit, spike - and cheer for Caylee! 🏐 An eighth grader at Mauro-Sheridan, Caylee is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team for New Haven Middle Schools. B - R - Y - C - E - what does that spell? BRYCE! 🏈 Bryce is in 6th grade at Booker T. Washington, and plays football with New Haven Steelers as a running back. His mom shared: "They won their game the other day and was so excited. He is the captain of the team and leads with great leadership skills. And he finished this season of flag football undefeated with his Seahawk teammates. He scored 2 touchdowns in the final game!" Bryce, we're rooting for you on the field and off! 👏🏾👏🏿
