So an historic building in the historic district on Waterloo St…a barn from the early 1800’s*…turned into a cool house and lived in for decades by beloved New Hope artists The Rosenwalds (Robert did the white sculpture by the free bridge and a photo of it is hanging in the lobby of New Hope Borough Community Room) was allowed to be TORN down so that this monstrosity could be built - oversized and out of place. (Today Chris Cosner posted the photo from the River)

2 more developers want to tear down houses on Waterloo to build more multi million dollar McFarmStyleMansions…

*When the barn house was being torn down a neighbor spoke with the demolition crew who said they found a beam inscribed with a date from the 1700’s…

Let’s talk Cintra property…part 1 of many…

Save Cintra Woods is a grassroots community campaign to protect 5 acres of historic open space in New Hope, PA from luxury development by Peter Edwardson/Ralph Fey.

“The Cintra estate represents over 200 years of history, with open space, old-growth trees and a centuries-old carriage house, all sitting right in the middle of town across from New Hope-Solebury School.

The property is now under threat of development, with many homes to be packed into the 5-acre parcel. The project will significantly increase traffic across from school entrances, causing back-ups and endangering students. The creation of impervious surfaces will create downhill flooding, straining residents’ wells and damaging property. And the development will increase population density in a borough that already has parking issues and a lack of recreational space.

The issues don’t stop in New Hope Borough. Thousands of Lambertville residents’ shop at Giant, McCaffrey’s, CVS, and dozens of other stores to the west of New Hope and in Solebury Township. Adding many homes at Cintra will increase local traffic significantly, making it harder for Lambertville and New Hope residents to access food and services.

The Save Cintra Woods campaign wants to stop the development of the land and to create open space for the public. Leaders of New Hope community organizations have expressed a keen interest in turning the Cintra carriage house into much-needed meeting space for civic groups. Efforts are underway to build a coalition which will pursue preservation of the property.

5. Ask why the double layer of fencing is still up and more went up last week. At last month’s Council meeting the New Hope Zoning Officer said it was all temporary while the 6(!!!) oil tanks were being dug up.

6. Even though New Hope Borough just updated their street signs to “7 years Tree City USA” through the Arbor Day Foundation, developers are cutting down our large mature trees at an alarming rate. The beautiful old growth historic trees within this 5 acres are at great risk as well to be cut down!

Let’s use our voices and stop these developers from destroying this historic property just so they can continue to make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$🤬

Tonight for discussion at the New Hope Borough Council meeting at 6:30 - Landmark Hospitality’s request to demolish left side “porch etc”of old Creeper Gallery building on Bridge St.

Ralph Fey architects appeared at the recent HARB meeting for designs for the front as well as the rear. The attached plans are from that meeting.

The HARB committee decision was TIED with 3 Yes and 3 No! Biggest concerns was the massive size of the addition they want to add to the back of the building as well as roof materials.

The plans submitted do not show the renovations and the big ass addition in context with the street or other buildings around it. There were no color drawings but it does appear that they want the addition to have that “over used and out of place” modern farmhouse look with white siding and black window trim. YUCK!!! The number of “lites” (individual window panes) seems excessive/not fitting with historical architecture. And so much more!

Landmark has created a mega group of buildings back there where they all appear to be joining each other. Sad that it is all concrete and stone vs the large trees, gardens and grass that has been there throughout history.

Landmark is still excavating back there - a much deeper basement at the Creeper building that is only feet away from the pink building on Bridge St. The new owner is very concerned and frustrated- not being able to get answers on who signed off on it and if his building is protected from collapsing…

This week the folks who work at Olde Stone suddenly cannot access their own parking lot in the back as it looks like Landmark decided to dig a big hole and block it completely. (Last photo).

After the HARB meeting the head of construction tried to tell a group of us that Landmark thinks of New Hope as “family” ….and before they came to town New Hope was a dying community. I did use the F word a few times in that conversation

Come to the Council meeting at 6:30 tonight and speak up!
