Ever wanted to ride in a fire truck? Ever wanted to ride in a black fire truck? Ever wanted to ride in a black fire truck for free?!?

Stop by the Father's Day Crystal Airport event tomorrow from 9-2 PM where West Metro Fire will be giving out free fire truck rides to those who stop by the fire table to talk to our firefighters and scan our QR code to our hiring page.

We understand maybe the job does not interest you specifically, but maybe someone you know! Or you realize it actually is something you want to do and if you live in New Hope and Crystal, we can help with that!

Firetruck rides are free, but cash or Square donations are accepted to help support the WMFRD Firefighters Relief Association! πŸ§‘β€πŸš’πŸš’

Firetruck ride rules:
1. No babies (We are sorry πŸ˜•)
2. Must have a ticket given to you by a firefighter from the fire table
3. There are only 4 open seats, so families bigger than that will have to be split
4. Rides can be stopped at any time for any reason. Nothing is guaranteed, donation made or not.
5. Discretion for anything else is left to the Fire Officer in charge. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Community Spotlight! This week we are recognizing all the certified nursing assistants! As the fire department, we work closely with CNA's on medical calls, as they are the first line of care to the patient when we arrive.

Being a CNA is so much more than a job title. They are the hands that help, the ears that listen, the hearts that care, and the smiles that bring comfort during life's most difficult moments.
Every day, CNA's make a difference through compassion, patience, strength, and dedication. Thank you for all the lives you have impacted and for the care you provide when it matters most.

To every CNA: You are valued. You are appreciated. You are making a difference. πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸ’–πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ

Fun Fire Fact Friday! Did you know that sometimes tree branches can catch fire? How, you might ask?

Sometimes, after windy storms or tree branches that have grown near power lines over time, those branches can actually catch fire and smoke up due to the amount of voltage running through the line that is touching the branch. (Usually the high tension line. That is the one all the way at the top.)

Being proactive is a great way to prevent this from happening. Just look at your trees in the yard and if your branches are touching or very close to any power lines, you can give XCEL Energy a call and let them know to check it out.

If you are being reactive, do not hesitate to call 911. We will come check it out and make sure you and your family are safe.

The more you know. πŸ˜‰πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

Shout out to all of our Fire Apparatus trainers right now at West Metro Fire!

Our class of 2024 is going through Fire Apparatus Operations, which means they are learning how to pump and drive the fire trucks. A very fine skill that needs to be practiced to ensure safety on the way to any emergency scene and water operations for our firefighters.

With a class of 10 individuals, each needing several hours and miles of driving for every major apparatus, it amounts to many hours for our trainers.

The class of 2024 will be complete by the end of the Summer with their FAO training. Please do wave at them if you see them driving around! πŸš’

Please prepare yourselves. Nothing we haven't seen before, but let's be ready as always. Get those gutters set, check that the sump pumps are working, and secure any items in the yard.

If you are in any kind of emergency, don't forget, we are here to help!

Fun Fire Fact Friday! This week, West Metro Fire would LOVE to educate you on Opticom traffic lights and the actual meaning behind what you are seeing at intersections. At the end, please watch an inside video of what goes on in our fire trucks and how they sound when we are driving through traffic (The last 5 seconds are the most accurate)😁

Ever wonder what those small white lights that blink are at the intersection? Then all of a sudden, an emergency vehicle passes by either towards you, from behind you, or across from you. What is happening is that every emergency vehicle can send a signal to the Opticom light, which will tell the traffic light system to change in favor of the emergency vehicle.

Did you know that if the Opticom light is solid, the emergency vehicle is traveling in the same direction you are going?
Did you know that if it is blinking, the emergency vehicle is traveling either across the intersection or toward you from the opposite flow of traffic?

What should you do? Pull over and stop if it's safe to do so. If you need to go through the intersection or have already started, be hyper-aware of all traffic and pull over and stop as soon as it is safe.
Please do not block the intersection and please do not follow the emergency vehicle at the same speed to just "catch the lights".

The more you know 😎
