Fun Fire Fact Friday! Did you know that West Metro Fire teaches fire safety to every school possible in the New Hope and Crystal area?

Today was a special day because it was the last day fire safety was taught for the Spring, which started back in March. West Metro Fire teaches 3-5th graders every Spring season. k-2nd graders are taught every Fall season.

If you have had a kid who goes to school in New Hope or Crystal, chances are, they have been taught fire safety by West Metro Fire. Topics included smoke alarms, best practices at home, not to play with lighters or matches, how to get out and stay out if there is a fire inside your home, how to call 911, and of course their favorite, checking out and jumping inside the fire truck.

West Metro has been dedicated to educating the next generation of heroes and by starting early and often, together we can make the world a safer place for them.

Shoutout to all the schools that made it a priority to let us come in and teach the youth! You know who you are! 🚒🧑‍🚒

Just like anything connected to electricity, make sure to check your connections and devices! With the days getting hotter, try not to leave anything charging in direct sunlight if possible! 🫡

The final theme of this year's National Electrical Safety Month centers on safe electric vehicle (EV) installations and EV charging safety.

According to multiple reports, over 1 in 5 new vehicles sold globally in 2024 were electric. Some experts predict this share will increase to about 50 percent over the next decade.

It's critical for professionals and consumers alike to understand the hazards and know how to mitigate them.

Fun Fire Fact Friday! Did you know that every year, West Metro hosts a friendly competition with its partners, including Robbinsdale FD, New Hope PD, and Crystal PD?

Every year, a challenge is thrown across the city for a friendly game of softball. Both teams give it their all (knowing we all have work the next day) and afterwards, a meal is shared with great conversation.

We appreciate these moments because most of the time, we are running around town responding to emergencies and working with our partners in a serious setting. This opportunity allows us to relax and focus on the good times.

Thanks to a partnership with the Minnesota State Fire Marshal, West Metro Fire has a more-than-usual number of Carbon Monoxide alarms to be installed in the homes of Crystal and New Hope.

Carbon Monoxide is the silent killer that is invisible, odorless and tasteless, which can only be reliably detected with a carbon monoxide detector. There should be one detector on every floor, including your basement, and within 10 feet of any bedroom.

Happy EMS Week!

The ones who show up for everyone else’s worst day.
The ones who miss birthdays.
Holidays.
Ball games.
Church mornings.
Dinner at the table.
Bedtime routines.

The ones who answer the call anyway.
Even when they’re sick.
Exhausted.
Anxious.
Depressed.
Running on fumes.

They still clock in.
They still suit up.
They still kneel beside strangers.
They still fight for lives that are not their own.
EMS is more than lights, sirens, and uniforms.
It is sacrifice.
It is missed moments.

It is loving people enough to show up when most of the world is asleep.

So this week, we honor the ones who don’t always get thanked.
The ones who keep going.
