Last evening at the weekly Tuesday drill, Eagle Firefighters reviewed rope rescue operations using Quint 46's aerial ladder as an artificial high directional. The aerial ladder creates a "change of direction" over an objective or an obstacle to allow a patient to be lifted to a safe location.

Personnel rigged up a twin-tensioned dual rope system using Harkin Clutches for progress capture and descent control. Our training mannequin was packaged in a basket stretcher. The stretcher was guided during the first several lifts and lowers with two tag lines attached to the basket. After that was completed, an attendant was added to the stretcher. The attendant can provide patient care during an operation and can maneuver the stretcher around edges and obstacles. Attendants are seldom needed, because most stretcher operations can be completed quickly using tag lines on the stretcher.

Some of the equipment used in the rope systems was purchased this year with funds from the PA Office of the State Fire Commissioners Grant Program that were awarded to the Fire Company. The grant allowed older software like slings and webbing to be replaced and new devices such as the Clutches and Capto rope grabs to be added.

Rope rescue operations may be "Low Frequency - High Risk" events, but training and frequent practice makes everything faster, safer and provides for a better patient outcome.

Four calls for the New Hope Eagle Fire Company today...number four was Marine Rescue Box 46-17 just after 1900 this evening for a report of four subjects in the water after a boat had capsized on the Delaware River upstream from the New Hope - Lambertville free bridge. Additional reports stated three in the water after a personal water craft had flipped over.

With personnel still at the station from an earlier fire call, Marine 46 went responding quickly. Chief officers responded to the scene and observed the three subjects on the upstream side of a bridge pier. Marine 46 launched from the Lambertville Boat ramp and quickly made contact with the two adults and one small child. None of them were wearing PFD's. The rescue crew left a member on the pier to secure the PWC while the three subjects were transported back to the boat ramp. Once the subjects were safely on the shore, Marine 46 went back out and towed the PWC back to the ramp as well. The three subjects denied injuries or medical complaints.

City of Lambertville Fire District #1 and Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad assisted at the boat ramp, while Central Bucks Emergency Medical Services and another LNHARS crew stood by in the parking lot behind Starbucks in New Hope. Crews were also assisted by New Hope Borough Police Department, Lambertville Police Department and the Bridge Commission personnel.

Personal floatation devices are required by law for anyone operating or riding on a PWC in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Please wear them! Luckily this incident didn't end in a tragedy, primarily due to the low water conditions we're experiencing currently.

Video shows Marine 46 heading upstream upon launching at the Lambertville ramp.

Last evening, Tanker 46 travelled to Newtown to participate in a testing drill to compare various ways to fill tankers during water shuttle operations. Eagle Fire Company, Lingohocken Fire Company and Upper Makefield Volunteer Fire Company all supplied tankers and equipment. Fill times were documented while keeping fill pressures and flows within safe ranges per the tank manufacturers. Single 5" LDH, dual 3" MDH, single 3"MDH, working fill lines off a manifold vs directly off the pump panel, and the use of the newly developed Cedar Valve for tank fills were tested on all three tankers, with the results to be compared with future testing. The goal is to create the "go to" method for tanker fill sites and eventually to adopt the standard county-wide. The drill was organized by UMFC Chief Tim Brewer and Henry Lovett of Penndel FC.

Shortly after returning from the drill, the Eagle Fire Company was dispatched to a possible barn / outbuilding fire on School Lane in Solebury Township. Engine 46, Tanker 46, Quint 46 and TAC 64 all responded. Upon arrival, a 30-yard construction dumpster was on fire, with no extension to the nearby barn. The fire was quickly knocked down and overhauled to ensure extinguishment. Thanks to Midway Volunteer Fire Company for Engine 5 and Tanker 5 for mutual aid on the tactical box dispatch.

After clearing the scene, personnel cleaned up hose and equipment, finishing up around 0015 Hours.

The New Hope Eagle Fire Company conducted our first live fire training of 2026 yesterday at the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center in Annandale NJ. We were joined by two members of the City of Lambertville Fire District #1.

Despite the rainy weather, the Company was able to conduct four (4) live fire evolutions. The first burn involved a review of fire behavior and the use of thermal imaging cameras. The burn provided an opportunity for members to interpret the images on the screen and compare it to actual conditions. This was followed by three (3) live burns that each involved stretching a hoseline to attack and control the fire, a second team assigned to search and rescue on the first floor, and a third team assigned to placing ground ladders and conducting searches on the second floor. Each team rotated through the three assignments.

Thanks to the instructors at the HCESTC for providing great training through realistic scenarios, and to the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue Squad for providing an ambulance and crew to stand-by during the training. Special thanks to our mutual aid fire companies for covering our area while members were at the training.

After returning to New Hope, members cleaned hose, refilled SCBA and otherwise returned everything to service. Members were completed with the training shortly after 1500. Seventeen Eagle firefighters participated in the training.

On Sunday 17 May at 1534 Hours, the New Hope Eagle Fire Company and our mutual aid partners were dispatched to the Delaware River in the area of the wing dam for a subject in the water and in distress. Lucky for that individual, three of our members were on the river at that moment practicing with Marine 46-1, the Company's Aluma-Ski.

Our members immediately entered the rapids downstream of the dam and progressed up towards the dam. An individual was observed floating downstream through the main flow of the dam. The subject had apparently been paddle boarding, fell into the water and was not wearing a personal floatation device.

One of the members dismounted the Aluma-Ski in the fast moving water and tried to provide floatation for the subject. After a few moments, the rescuers got the subject onto the rescue board towed by the "ski". Once on the rescue board, the operator navigated through the rapids to the shoreline. The subject denied any medical issues or injuries and refused medical attention. She was left in the care of a friend.

PLEASE - If you are going out on the river for recreational activities, PLEASE WEAR A PFD!

Last evening starting at 1800 Hours, the New Hope Eagle Fire Company conducted some marine rescue training on the Delaware River.

Two members completed their training qualifications for Marine 46, the Company's airboat. Two other members completed their checkouts on Marine 46-1, the Aluma-Ski with rescue board. Other members assisted with playing the role of "victims" in the water for both the boat operations and for personnel practicing shore-based rescue techniques. Both marine units practiced floating victim approaches and rescues, going up and down through the wing dam, and making approaches to islands and boulders in the river. Meanwhile, members qualified to fly the Company's drone practiced with different search modes and camera operations.

While out on the water, the Fire Company and our mutual aid partners (City of Lambertville Fire District #1, West Amwell Fire Company STA26, Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance & Rescue SquadAmbulance & Rescue Squad, New Hope Borough Police Department) were dispatched for a report of "a body in the water" near the wing dam. Crews were in the area in less than a minute and confirmed that the anonymous caller had actually reported a hazard buoy anchored above the dam to mark the location of a submerged log. The mutual aid response was recalled and the drill continued until about 2100 Hours.

This past week and weekend had several Eagle Firefighters attending training courses at two different academies.

Captain Jared Spencer, FF Jack Manning and FF Kristin Spencer attended the first portion of Vehicle Rescue Awareness, Operations and Technician course at Bucks County Public Safety Training Center in Doylestown on Monday and Wednesday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. Also at BCPSTC on Saturday were FF Eric Green, FF Tracy Topolin, FF Vlad Usatin, Jr FF Julia Wigler, Jr FF Matt Shaw, Jr FF Tripp Spencer, and Jr FF Quinn Spencer - all of whom were working to complete their Hazardous Materials - Operations Level class in order to finish up their Firefighter 1 training.

On Wednesday and Friday evening, followed by noon until 10:00 PM on Saturday, Lt. Jack Pellegrino-Paul and FF Hugh Borbidge completed the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Training Center's Swiftwater Rescue Technician course. Chief Breuer helped present the class as an HCESTC instructor. Captain Jared Spencer, Captain James Breuer and FF Matt Kritz supported the night search exercise portion of the class by bringing Marine 46 for the students to utilize during the operation. This also allowed Spencer and Breuer to complete their nighttime operations portion of the operator checklist for Marine 46. UAS 46, the Fire Company's drone, was also used as part of class to assist the students in locating the numerous victims that were part of the exercise.
