WHS’s Ed Rising Delegation is representing Iberia Parish at the National Educators Rising Conference in our Nation’s Capital, Washington DC. While there, they are taking in some sites of many of our National Monuments and making memories.

Today WHS Senior, Makayla Phrommabouth, member of the Iberia Parish Pre- Educators Pathway pilot program signed with The University of Louisiana at Lafayette to join their Department of Education and Human Development. Makayla hopes to become a Middle School History teacher once she completes her degree.

This week 12 students attended the Ed Rising Louisiana State Convention at ULM. WHS is piloting this program for students who aspire to become future Educators. All 12 competed in various public speaking competitions. Brailyn Dowdy and Kaliyah Polk placed first place with a video presentation featuring amazing teacher practices used by teachers in Iberia Parish. Both girls have qualified to compete in Washington DC this summer.

Members of WHS’ Multicultural Learning Communities class and members of the Educator’s Rising Pathway visited with Superintendent Heath Hulin to get a better understanding of how the Iberia Parish School System operates on a daily basis.

The parent-teacher conference planned for tomorrow has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a date to be announced at a later time.

Iberia Parish is expected to experience an enhanced risk of severe weather beginning Monday afternoon. In addition to the severe weather threat, there is an increasing risk of flash flooding across parts of the region especially south central Louisiana (Lafayette, Iberia, St. Martin, St Mary parishes).

In order to ensure safety of students and staff, schools will dismiss at midday beginning with middle and high schools at 11:30 AM and elementary school following at 12:30 PM. All after school activities for Monday will be cancelled.

Underclassman pictures will take place Monday and Tuesday. Students are to take pictures in a school shirt. No students are allowed to take a picture in a jacket. Senior pictures will take place Wednesday.

Westgate High School would like to introduce our Teacher of the Year💜💛, Mrs. Carmella Lewis. Mrs. Lewis is our FACS teacher. She goes above and beyond for our students. Mrs. Lewis also is an avid sports fan. On today, we would like to give Mrs. Lewis her flowers and let her know she is appreciated greatly.
