Breighlynn M. Polk is a second-year graduate student in the American Studies program at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. A native of New Iberia, Polk received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Clark Atlanta University in 2017. With research interests in oral history, anthropology, and ethnography, Polk's goal is to expand the historical knowledge and awareness of local, marginalized communities in the rural South through the preservation of personal narratives and experiences.

Polk's first exhibit "The Second Side," features oral histories from African American residents and natives who participated in interviews conducted by high school students as part of the Oral Traditions class, a partnership between the Shadows and Iberia Parish Schools, that ran from 1992 to 2007. "The Second Side" opens on Saturday, December 10 at 1 p.m. at the Shadows Visitor Center.

It has been 2 years since a Beautiful young girl was murdered. And still nothing. So we pay to keep her murderer alive . Fed, warm. Disgusting.
When will regular yard waste pickup resume on the north side of the bayou? We are trying to figure out when to put the cans at the street. Thanks
Live in Iberia parish...need a tarp..where do we get these from ASAP?
I want to take this time to thank our Mayor Freddie DeCourt for allowing me the time this morning

Thanks also for agreeing with me that this TRASH PILE behind Charlie’s Drive Inn was a serious issue if a Hurricane hits us

He assured me it would be taken care of this morning and is has been taken care of !!!

I only pray to GOD that the tenants of the apartments don’t make a new pile there before the storms come

Please Mayor Freddie DeCourt, get a resolution passed to FINE THE APARTMENT OWNERS FIR THIS

That is ILLEGAL DUMPING
Where and when can we pick up sandbags in City??
Is this the new New Iberia City Dump
At the corner of Wayne Street and Parkview Drive behind the old Charlie’s Drive Inn

There is SO MUCH DEBRIS that will be flying during these storms

I think the City of New Iberia has a RESPONSIBILITY to the residents near this TRASH PILE to get it all removed prior to these storm and send the bill to the owners of the apoartments which is where it all comes from and to make the owners put a DUMPSTER On their OWN property FOR THEIR RENTERS TO THROW THEIR TRASH

I WILL BE FOLLOWING UP THIS POST WITH THE Mayor Freddie DeCourt tomorrow morning FIRST THING

This is an ON GOING PROBLEM with the residents of those apoartments since they were built
Please bring back online streaming of City Council meetings. There should be a way for citizens to see what is going on without going to the meetings in person.
Does anyone know when DMV will reopen??
Please check your messages.
With a heavy heart and embarrassment I am writing to see if anyone knows of any food banks or churches in the new Iberia area that would help me out with some groceries to put into my house so my family can eat? I lost my job right before the covid 19 outbreak and now can’t find one and my fiancé is in the midst of maybe having to lose his. We are very humble people and we NEVER ask for help but he simply can’t do it on his own at 8.25/hr even at 6 days a week. Just like many, we lived paycheck to paycheck but we were making it. Now we find ourselves wondering how we will eat the next day. I just cooked our last pack of meat for lunch and hopefully it will see through to supper also. So, I’m peaceful begging if anyone knows of anywhere, I’d really appreciate it. I absolutely HATE having to ask for a handout because we are usually the ones helping those in need, but now we are in need just like so many of these other families. God Bless each and everyone of you and I pray this cycle ends soon for all of us.

I’m also writing this and he has no idea because if he did, I would NEVER hear the end of it. But we need help right now and we are still helping others in ANY way that we can.

Thanks.

Foreign exchange students come with money every month, they are responsible for paying for their own cell phone, toiletries, and whatever foods the family is not used to cooking or having in the household. You treat them like your own, they do chores, they are very respectful and grateful for anyone taking them into their home.
I need some help who do I need to contact
