NPSTW – National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHIEF TODD D’ALBOR, NEW IBERIA POLICE DEPARTMENT, [email protected]

NEW IBERIA POLICE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

April 5, 2021, New Iberia, LA – New Iberia Police Department is celebrating the second full week of April (April 11-17) as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. This week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens.

Recent events have highlighted the work of telecommunications professionals at the New Iberia Police Department. Our Communications Center moved from the 911 Center and into the New Iberia Police Department on August 6th, 2020. This united all uniform services under one roof and allowed all members of the department and citizens of the City of New Iberia immediate access to uniform services at one centralized location.

Mayor Freddie DeCourt has recognized National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and honored the New Iberia Police Department’s staff by releasing an official proclamation.

“Everything great begins with excellent communication. The New Iberia Police Department has a select group of talented Communications Officers who manage answering emergency phone calls ranging from noise complaints to serious crime reports. Our Communications Officers are the lifeline of our department.”

- Chief Todd D’Albor

About the New Iberia Police Department Communications Center. The New Iberia Police Department currently employees nine Public Safety Telecommunicators, including a division supervisor, who are tasked with processing emergency calls from the citizens of New Iberia as well as the safety and well-being of those citizens and the officers that serve to protect this city, 24 hours a day/365 days a year. These telecommunicators take their duties seriously and go above and beyond to insure continued safety for everyone.

About National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel in the public safety community, are honored. This week-long event, initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California, is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

APCO International® (www.apcointl.org)
APCO International is the world’s oldest and largest organization of public safety communications professionals and supports the largest U.S. membership base of any public safety association. It serves the needs of public safety communications practitioners worldwide - and the welfare of the general public as a whole – by providing complete expertise, professional development, technical assistance, advocacy and outreach.

During a gathering of local and state officials at the Port of Iberia this morning, Mayor Freddie DeCourt takes an opportunity to thank Governor John Bel Edwards for moneys allocated toward dredging the Acadiana-Gulf of Mexico Access Channel.

Deeping the channels was one of the deciding factors in the Baton Rouge-based Turner Industries, one of the nation’s largest industrial construction firms, choosing the Port of Iberia as a new location, all of which will have a positive impact on the City of New Iberia.

Congratulations to Executive Director Craig Romero for his hard-work and the Port Board of Directors. In addition, we can never thank our Baton Rouge delegation enough for their continuous support of the Port of Iberia, and of our region’s economy development.

I want to take this time to thank our Mayor Freddie DeCourt for allowing me the time this morning Thanks also for agreeing with me that this TRASH PILE behind Charlie’s Drive Inn was a serious issue if a Hurricane hits us He assured me it would be taken care of this morning and is has been taken care of !!! I only pray to GOD that the tenants of the apartments don’t make a new pile there before the storms come Please Mayor Freddie DeCourt, get a resolution passed to FINE THE APARTMENT OWNERS FIR THIS That is ILLEGAL DUMPING
Where and when can we pick up sandbags in City??
Is this the new New Iberia City Dump At the corner of Wayne Street and Parkview Drive behind the old Charlie’s Drive Inn There is SO MUCH DEBRIS that will be flying during these storms I think the City of New Iberia has a RESPONSIBILITY to the residents near this TRASH PILE to get it all removed prior to these storm and send the bill to the owners of the apoartments which is where it all comes from and to make the owners put a DUMPSTER On their OWN property FOR THEIR RENTERS TO THROW THEIR TRASH I WILL BE FOLLOWING UP THIS POST WITH THE Mayor Freddie DeCourt tomorrow morning FIRST THING This is an ON GOING PROBLEM with the residents of those apoartments since they were built
Please bring back online streaming of City Council meetings. There should be a way for citizens to see what is going on without going to the meetings in person.
Does anyone know when DMV will reopen??
Please check your messages.
With a heavy heart and embarrassment I am writing to see if anyone knows of any food banks or churches in the new Iberia area that would help me out with some groceries to put into my house so my family can eat? I lost my job right before the covid 19 outbreak and now can’t find one and my fiancé is in the midst of maybe having to lose his. We are very humble people and we NEVER ask for help but he simply can’t do it on his own at 8.25/hr even at 6 days a week. Just like many, we lived paycheck to paycheck but we were making it. Now we find ourselves wondering how we will eat the next day. I just cooked our last pack of meat for lunch and hopefully it will see through to supper also. So, I’m peaceful begging if anyone knows of anywhere, I’d really appreciate it. I absolutely HATE having to ask for a handout because we are usually the ones helping those in need, but now we are in need just like so many of these other families. God Bless each and everyone of you and I pray this cycle ends soon for all of us. I’m also writing this and he has no idea because if he did, I would NEVER hear the end of it. But we need help right now and we are still helping others in ANY way that we can. Thanks.
Come on Louisiana we can do this😊 I was challenged to place 2 students this week y’all help me complete my challenge and the students dreams come true all at the same time😊 Who would love to host a wonderful, most amazing student. Send me a message, call my phone or send me an email however you would like. 337-967-1506 [email protected] 🦞🦞PLEASE SHARE🦞🦞 Foreign exchange students come with money every month, they are responsible for paying for their own cell phone, toiletries, and whatever foods the family is not used to cooking or having in the household. You treat them like your own, they do chores, they are very respectful and grateful for anyone taking them into their home.
I need some help who do I need to contact with a noise complaint for a neighbors LOUD DOG BARKING SINCE 2AM
