August/September is peak season for West Nile infections, and Iberia Parish Mosquito Control is way ahead of the game. We have been monitoring the mosquito population for months, submitting mosquito samples for disease detection. We do not wait for human cases to appear. We target the areas of West Nile detections, knocking down the mosquito populations and reducing the odds of human infection.

Aerial Mosquito Control Alert – Tuesday, Aug. 11

The Iberia Parish Mosquito Control District and the U.S. Air Force 757th will conduct an
aerial mosquito-spray operation Tuesday evening around sundown (weather permitting).
Residents will see a large, low-flying military aircraft moving quickly through the area. Please
do not attempt to follow the aircraft.
Spray Zone: South of Hwy 90 from Jeanerette → Delcambre, including: Port of Iberia, Avery
Island, Lydia, Bayou Jack, Hubertville, Patoutville, and nearby areas.
Safety Note: Only individuals who are hypersensitive to insecticides or who wish to avoid any
exposure should limit outdoor activity. All others may continue normal routines.

One of our agency’s traditions during Annual Mosquito Control Awareness Week is to place displays at branches of the Iberia Parish Library system. These displays include giveaway items such as pens, keyrings, crayons, and notepads. Here are 3 of those displays, flanked by some of our dedicated staff.

Our agency collaborates with the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, the American Mosquito Control Association, the Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Baton Rouge, the Louisiana Department of Health, University scientists, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among others. You too are part of the partnership.
