๐Ÿ  New Home Fire Safety Checklist: Quick Steps to Keep Your Home Safe!

When was the last time you did a safety walkthrough of your home? Keeping your family safe starts with checking the boxes on potential hazards before they become emergencies.

Weโ€™ve attached the newly updated Home Fire Safety Checklist from the Ohio State Fire Marshal. We encourage every family in New Lebanon to take a few minutes this week to review these crucial areas:

๐Ÿ”ฅ Heating & Cooking: Ensure your heating system is checked every year. Remember: portable heaters must be plugged directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip or extension cord, and turned off before bed!
๐Ÿ”Œ Electrical Safety: Check that your outlets are not overloaded, cords are undamaged, and extension cords are never run under rugs or through doorways.
๐Ÿงน Housekeeping & Storage: Keep hallways, stairs, and exits completely clear. Clean your dryer lint filter after every single use, and clean the vents twice a year.
๐Ÿšจ Smoke Alarms: Ensure you have alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level. Test them monthly and replace the entire unit after 10 years.
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Family Escape Plan: Make sure you have a designated family meeting place outside, practice your fire drills, and remember the golden rule: Get out. Stay out. Call 911.

Go through the list with your family. If you find a problem, fix it right away or ask for help!

๐Ÿšš Attention Food Truck Owners & Event Organizers! ๐Ÿ”

Planning to serve up delicious eats within the Village of New Lebanon? To ensure the safety of our community and keep your operations running smoothly, please ensure you have all your necessary permits and inspections completed before opening for business.

Here is what you need to know:
โ€ขVillage Permits: Food trucks are required to obtain an Annual Business Permit as well as an Event Permit (which is valid for up to 3 separate dates). Both permits must be obtained at the Village Office.

โ€ขFood License Required: Please note that the Village needs a copy of your food license at the time you obtain your business permit.

โ€ขFire Inspections: Once your permits are secured, a safety inspection must be performed and passed. All food trucks operating within the village must have a valid fire inspection completed by a New Lebanon Fire Department Inspector.

โš ๏ธOperating without valid permits and a passed fire inspection is not permitted, so please plan ahead!

Who to Call:
โ€ขFor questions regarding permits, contact the Village Office at ๐Ÿ“ž (937) 687-1341.

โ€ขTo coordinate or confirm your fire inspection, contact the Fire Department at ๐Ÿ“ž (937) 687-7510.

Thank you for helping us keep New Lebanon both safe and delicious! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’จ

โ›ˆ๏ธNew Lebanon is under a Level 2 risk for severe storms today, Tuesday, May 19th.โ›ˆ๏ธ

The primary timing for these storms runs from 3:00 PM this afternoon through 3:00 AM late tonight.
Our main concern is damaging winds, which could bring down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Large hail and heavy rainfall leading to minor roadway ponding are also possible. While the isolated tornado threat is low for our immediate area, it cannot be entirely ruled out.

Please take a few minutes today to secure loose outdoor items like patio furniture and trash cans. Make sure your devices are fully charged and that your emergency alerts are turned ON so you can receive warnings over the air during the overnight hours.

We are monitoring the forecast closely from the station. Stay safe, New Lebanon!
