๐ New Home Fire Safety Checklist: Quick Steps to Keep Your Home Safe!
When was the last time you did a safety walkthrough of your home? Keeping your family safe starts with checking the boxes on potential hazards before they become emergencies.
Weโve attached the newly updated Home Fire Safety Checklist from the Ohio State Fire Marshal. We encourage every family in New Lebanon to take a few minutes this week to review these crucial areas:
๐ฅ Heating & Cooking: Ensure your heating system is checked every year. Remember: portable heaters must be plugged directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip or extension cord, and turned off before bed!
๐ Electrical Safety: Check that your outlets are not overloaded, cords are undamaged, and extension cords are never run under rugs or through doorways.
๐งน Housekeeping & Storage: Keep hallways, stairs, and exits completely clear. Clean your dryer lint filter after every single use, and clean the vents twice a year.
๐จ Smoke Alarms: Ensure you have alarms in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level. Test them monthly and replace the entire unit after 10 years.
๐โโ๏ธ Family Escape Plan: Make sure you have a designated family meeting place outside, practice your fire drills, and remember the golden rule: Get out. Stay out. Call 911.
Go through the list with your family. If you find a problem, fix it right away or ask for help!
