The New Lexington Police Department was proud to host a successful law enforcement training event today, bringing together more than 50 local, county, and state law enforcement officers from across southeast and central Ohio.

Officers attended from agencies representing Athens, Hocking, Licking, Muskingum, Perry, and Tuscarawas Counties, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

This training would not have been possible without the dedication of Chris from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO), who helped develop the training event and worked diligently to ensure it became a reality. We are grateful for his commitment to providing high-quality training opportunities for Ohio’s law enforcement professionals.

The training featured presentations from representatives of the FBI, Ohio Homeland Security, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, and Magloclen. The instruction focused on enhancing officer awareness and providing valuable information to assist law enforcement professionals during traffic enforcement and other public safety interactions.

This training was offered at no cost to law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio, reinforcing the importance of collaboration, continuing education, and partnerships that help keep our communities safe.

The New Lexington Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Perry County Police Chiefs Association for its assistance in making this training possible. We also thank Behavioral Health Choices for graciously providing the use of its Activity Center, which served as an outstanding training venue.

Operation Leads to Arrest of Wanted Fugitive

New Lexington, Ohio — July 1, 2026
On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Officer with the New Lexington Police Department conducted a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of a wanted fugitive believed to be dangerous.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Perry County Sheriff's Office. Investigators developed an operational plan to safely lure the suspect, identified as Kyle Marshall, to a designated location in an effort to take him into custody.

Marshall was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including:
• Failure to Report (Escape)
• Four counts of Escape, Felonies of the Fifth Degree
• An Adult Parole Authority holder
• A traffic-related warrant from Muskingum County

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Marshall was also being sought for questioning in several ongoing investigations.

Upon arriving at the location, Marshall fled the scene in a vehicle, leading law enforcement officers on a brief vehicle pursuit. After his vehicle left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch, Marshall exited the vehicle and continued to flee on foot into a wooded area while officers pursued him. Following a coordinated search, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended Marshall.
Marshall was taken into custody without injury to himself or any law enforcement personnel. The New Lexington EMS Squad responded to the scene and provided medical evaluation and treatment to the parties involved. Marshall was subsequently transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, where he is being held pending further court proceedings.

As a result of Marshall's actions during the incident, additional criminal charges are being pursued.
The successful apprehension was made possible through the coordinated efforts and professionalism of all responding agencies. Law enforcement remains committed to locating and apprehending individuals who pose a threat to public safety while ensuring the safety of officers and the community.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.

New Lexington Police Department Announces Grand Jury Indictments Following Multiple Investigations
Date: July 1, 2026

The New Lexington Police Department announces that the Perry County Grand Jury has returned multiple indictments as the result of investigations conducted by the department.

Sixteen-Count Indictment
Andrew Beavers has been indicted on a 16-count indictment following an investigation conducted by the New Lexington Police Department.
The investigation began in December 2025 after multiple breaking-and-entering incidents and thefts were reported in the New Lexington area. Investigators identified multiple suspects connected to the offenses. A majority of the reported stolen property was recovered during the investigation. As a result two (2) individuals have been indicted with additional suspects expected to be indicted later.
The indictment includes the following charges:
• One count of Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity, a felony of the first degree
• Two counts of Breaking and Entering, felonies of the fifth degree
• Two counts of Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, felonies of the fourth degree
• Three counts of Receiving Stolen Property, felonies of the fourth degree
• One count of Tampering with Evidence, a felony of the third degree
• One count of Possessing Criminal Tools, a felony of the fourth degree
• One count of Theft, a felony of the third degree
• One count of Complicity to Breaking and Entering, a felony of the fifth degree
• Two counts of Complicity to Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, felonies of the third degree
• One count of Complicity to Theft, a felony of the fifth degree
• One count of Receiving Stolen Property, a felony of the fifth degree

• Two counts of Complicity to Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, felonies of the fourth degree

Separate Drug Investigation
In a separate investigation, the Perry County Grand Jury returned a seven-count indictment against Steven Finck.
The indictment includes the following charges:
• Three counts of Trafficking in a Fentanyl-Related Compound, felonies of the fourth degree
• One count of Possession of a Fentanyl-Related Compound, a felony of the fifth degree
• One count of Illegal Manufacture of Drugs, a felony of the second degree
• One count of Illegal Assembly or Possession of Chemicals for the Manufacture of Drugs, a felony of the third degree
• One count of Illegal Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree
Investigators allege that in early June 2026, Steven Finck sold narcotics on multiple occasions to an undercover operative. He was arrested on June 9, 2026, and has remained in custody since that time. Multiple search warrants were executed during the investigation.

These indictments resulted from investigations conducted by the New Lexington Police Department.

The department thanks the Perry County Prosecutor’s Office and assisting law enforcement agencies for their support.

An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct. It is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Because these cases are pending before the court, the New Lexington Police Department will have no further comment.

New Lexington Police Department Announces Promotion of Officer Corey Abram to Community Relations Sergeant

The New Lexington Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Corey Abram to the position of Community Relations Sergeant, effective August 1, 2026.

For the past several years, Officer Abram has served as a School Resource Officer (SRO), building strong relationships with students, staff, and families throughout the New Lexington School District. His dedication to youth engagement, public safety, and community outreach has made a lasting impact on our schools and community.

In his new role as Community Relations Sergeant, Abram will continue strengthening partnerships between the police department and the citizens we serve. He will oversee community engagement initiatives, educational programs, special events, and outreach efforts designed to foster trust, transparency, and collaboration throughout New Lexington.

Additionally, Therapy K9 Lexie will remain partnered with Sergeant Abram. Together, they will continue the outstanding work they have been doing throughout our schools, community events, and public outreach efforts. K9 Lexie has become a valued member of the New Lexington Police Department, providing comfort, support, and positive interactions with citizens of all ages.

The New Lexington Police Department recently completed its annual OPOTA fi****ms qualifications alongside officers from the Somerset, Crooksville, and Roseville Police Departments.

This year’s qualifications were held at the new range operated by Silverback Safety & Training Solutions. We appreciate the opportunity to utilize this outstanding facility and would like to thank owner Troy Lowe for being on site and helping facilitate everything needed to make the two days of training a success.

MacGahan Festival Reminder

The New Lexington Police Department would like to remind everyone that the 48th Annual MacGahan Festival is taking place today.

Activities will be held at the New Lexington Cemetery, the MacGahan Statue, and the Perry County Library.

Around 12:00 p.m., participants will gather at the MacGahan Statue near the Courthouse for the flower placement ceremony.

New Lexington Police Department Investigates Child Welfare Complaint, Seizes Suspected Narcotics

NEW LEXINGTON, Ohio — June 11, 2026 Officers with the New Lexington Police Department responded to 600 block of Center Street in New Lexington, Ohio, on May 21, 2026, to conduct a welfare check on residents at the home.

Upon arrival, officers discovered minor children in the care of adults who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. Due to concerns about the safety and well-being of the children, Perry County Children Services was requested to respond to the scene.

As the investigation progressed, NLPD officers obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence. During the search, officers seized suspected methamphetamine, crack co***ne, he**in, clonazepam, digital scales, jewelry baggies commonly associated with narcotics distribution, and other drug paraphernalia.

The New Lexington Police Department would like to thank Perry County Children Services, New Lexington Fire & EMS, Perry County Prosecutor T.J. Rugg, Judge Drew Cannon, and Judge Luann Cooperrider for their assistance and cooperation throughout the investigation.

All seized evidence has been submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) for further analysis. The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending for the completion of laboratory testing and review of evidence.

Undercover Narcotics Investigation Results in Seizure of Fentanyl, Cash, and Evidence of Long-Term Drug Trafficking

NEW LEXINGTON, OHIO — Following a month-long undercover narcotics investigation, the New Lexington Police Department has successfully concluded an operation targeting the distribution of dangerous illegal narcotics within the Village of New Lexington.

The investigation, conducted by officers of the New Lexington Police Department over a period exceeding one month, resulted in the seizure of more than nine grams of fentanyl, U.S. currency believed to be proceeds from narcotics trafficking, and additional evidence indicating long-term involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs within the community.

As a result of the investigation, one suspect has been taken into custody and is currently incarcerated. The identity of the suspect is being withheld at this time pending the formal filing of criminal charges through the appropriate court process.

The fentanyl seized during this investigation represents a significant threat to public safety. Fentanyl is a highly potent synthetic opioid responsible for overdose deaths throughout Ohio and across the nation. Even small quantities can be lethal, making its removal from the community a priority for law enforcement.

Chief Douglas Gill stated:
"Every gram of fentanyl removed from our community represents lives that may be saved. This dangerous drug continues to devastate families, strain emergency services, and create lasting impacts throughout our village. Our officers remain committed to aggressively pursuing those who profit from addiction and endanger the safety of our citizens."

At the same time, we recognize that substance use disorder affects individuals and families from all walks of life. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, we encourage you to seek help and utilize available treatment resources.
