The ODNR Division of Geological Survey and Ohio History Connection are hosting an Open House event at Flint Ridge Ancient Quarries & Nature Preserve. Visitors will engage in hands-on activities at the pavilion and get a chance to visit the museum free of charge. Throughout the day, accessible guided tours co-led by a geologist and a historian will take participants through the preserve to see ancient pits left by American Indians who came from the surrounding area to quarry flint.

The event is free and open to all ages. No registration is required.

Any night owls?! Check out the lunar eclipse happening tonight!

Share This One: Clear Skies For Tonight’s Lunar Eclipse!

We couldn’t ask for much better timing — skies across Ohio should be mostly clear tonight as a lunar eclipse unfolds overhead!

The show really gets going at 10:34 PM, when the dark edge of Earth’s shadow begins moving across the Moon. More and more of the Moon will disappear into that shadow until 12:12 AM, when about 96% of the Moon will be eclipsed.

🌕 10:34 PM: Partial eclipse begins
🌘 12:12 AM: Peak — 96% eclipsed
🌕 1:51 AM: Partial eclipse ends

Near the peak, almost the entire Moon will be sitting inside Earth’s shadow and may take on a dark reddish or copper color. This is about as close as you can get to a total lunar eclipse without actually having one!

And remember: no special glasses are needed. Just head outside and look up.

Who is staying up for this one? 👀

While traveling yesterday, I snagged this pretty turtle off the road. She had significant damage to her shell that in most cases would be fatal but I found miracle workers at Crows Hollow Wildlife Center between Kenton and Marysville. Thanks to several kind people and helpful volunteers, the turtle was given a fighting chance.

Hooray for people that have the heart and skill to help our wildlife! ❤️❤️

Here's the happy update pictures. Original pictures of the injury are in the comments if you'd like to see them. Warning. They are graphic.
