Last week we hosted two amazing events. Our Youth Fishing Event with the Elkins Fish and Game Club on Thursday had some excited young anglers who enjoyed a perfect morning on Pleasant Lake. On Friday, we held our Flying into Fall event and had lots of kids and families come out for the paper airplane contest and drumming on the Green. A big thanks to Echo Communications and Julie Correy and Kathy Lowe for collaborating on this event.

The season is wrapping up for our beach staff. Please double-check the schedule on the website and at the beaches for specifics. Reminder: the beach bathrooms will be closed for the season as of 9/8 and docks and swim lines will be taken in as well.

Check out these exciting upcoming events:

"Play Date" on the Green, Friday, 8/21, 6:30-8 PM, with the last Band Concert. Join us for games and snacks as you take in the concert.

Youth Fishing Event, Thursday, 8/27, 9-11 AM, Pleasant Lake Dam. The New London Recreation Department and Elkins Fish & Game Club are holding a FREE joint introductory Youth Bait Fishing Class for children 8 to 12 years old. Bring your own equipment or borrow our loaner gear.

Flying into Fall, Kids Paper Airplane Contest and Community Drum Performance, Friday 8/28, 5-7:30 PM, Town Green. Co-sponsored by Echo Communications. See the flyer for details.

Flag Football for Kids, Mondays, 3:15-4:30 PM, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, Town Green. Kids 3rd to 5th grade, $30 Residents and $40 Non-residents.

What a weekend. The Recreation Department was thrilled to be a partner in this incredible community celebration.

Thursday night we joined in the Meet the Chamber night, and it was great to see all the businesses and organizations that add so much to our region. Friday brought a great crowd to Bucklin Beach for our Free Hot Dogs and Beach Games event — a big thanks to the New London Hospital staff who volunteered their time. To wrap things up, the parade was amazing as always, with impressive floats and an enthusiastic crowd. It was another reminder of what a special place we live in, and of the people who make it that way.

Beach Staff Update 8/1:

Beach Staff will be taking part in the Parade and will be at the beaches and on duty around 11:30/12 PM. No Lifeguards or Boat Loan Program until then.
