Connecticut has confirmed its third measles case of 2026. This case involves a Hartford County adult who developed symptoms after returning from international travel.

Nationwide, measles cases now exceeding 2,700 in 2026, the highest total since 1991. DPH urges residents to confirm their MMR vaccination status, especially ahead of international travel. The MMR vaccine is about 97% effective at preventing infection.

Good news! The swimming advisories we issued yesterday for Green Harbor Beach and East Shore (South) Beach have been lifted based on the results of yesterday's resampling.

Hi FaceBook Land! We've seen a few posts about water quality at a New London beach and want to clear things up for you all. We have NOT identified the presence of 'flesh eating bacteria' at Green Harbor Beach. :)
Every week we sample the water at a BUNCH of local beaches and send those samples to the State Lab for testing for enterococcal organisms, which are a group of organisms that may indicate the presence of potentially harmful bacteria.
If those results come back above the threshold set by the State, we post an advisory at that beach and take another sample on Wednesday. Most of the time, the second sample comes back below the threshold and we lift the advisory. Sometimes the second sample comes back high and we might post a closure, which is usually lifted when we sample again the following week.
This Monday's samples came back elevated for two local beaches, which is not surprising given the amount of rain we have had recently since runoff from storms can result in elevated bacteria in the water. We encourage everyone to use caution and recommend against active swimming - including dunking your head under the water, when there is an advisory posted.
You can always find up-to-date information about advisories on our website at https://llhd.org/healthy-communities/nurturing-healthy-environments/beaches/.

It’s , so here’s your reminder that these little critters come in different shapes and sizes.
Blacklegged, lone star, and dog ticks all look a bit different — but they share one thing in common: they love to hitch a ride.

Do a quick tick check after outdoor time and keep repellents handy. Your future self will thank you.

Mosquitoes are not just annoying—they spread germs. Keep them out of your home by using screens, running AC when possible, and removing standing water. Repellent works, too!
