NEWS RELEASE:

New London Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

New London, CT — On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at approximately 12:02 p.m., officers with the New London Police Department responded to the area of Phillips Street and Fourth Avenue in New London for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle crash involving injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located two vehicle operators involved in the crash. One operator was unresponsive at the time of contact, while the other operator was alert and conscious. Both operators were transported to the hospital for treatment. The unresponsive operator was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The investigation into the crash remains active.

New London Police Investigating Shooting Incident

NEW LONDON, CT – The New London Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred Saturday evening in the area of Colman Street and Fern Street.

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 9:23 p.m., New London Police officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the vicinity of Colman Street and Fern Street. While officers were responding to the scene, the department received notification that an individual had been transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The victim, an adult male, sustained a gunshot wound to his lower extremity. The injury does not appear to be life-threatening at this time.

The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing. The New London Police Department is working diligently to gather additional information regarding the incident

New London Woman Arrested on First-Degree Larceny Warrant

New London, CT — The New London Police Department announces the arrest of Kathrine Dunn, DOB 08/25/1977, of New London, Connecticut.

On June 1, 2026, Dunn was taken into custody on an active felony arrest warrant charging her with:

Larceny in the First Degree
The arrest stems from an investigation into allegations that Dunn, while employed as the Executive Director of Higher Edge, Inc., improperly used organizational funds for personal purposes. Investigators allege that between December 2021 and March 2026, Dunn utilized Higher Edge, Inc. funds for personal expenditures totaling in excess of $100,000.

Dunn was subsequently released from custody after posting a court-set cash/surety bond of $109,000. Dunn was issued a court date of June 15, 2026, at Connecticut Superior Court, G.A. 10, New London.

The investigation remains active.

The New London Police Department is proud to recognize the members of our agency and CT Probation-New London Office along with Mayor Passero and City Clerk Jonathan Ayala who participated in today’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

This meaningful event brings law enforcement officers and community members together in support of Special Olympics athletes and the values of inclusion, determination, and teamwork. We are honored to take part and help carry the Flame of Hope in support of such an important cause.

News Release:

Subject Arrested Following Report of Individual Brandishing Weapon on Moped

NEW LONDON, CT - On June 1, 2026, at approximately 8:23 a.m., the New London Police Department responded to a report of an individual possibly brandishing a weapon while riding a moped in the area of Union Street and Governor Winthrop Boulevard in New London, Connecticut. Additional descriptors of the subject were also provided to police at the time of the initial report.

Through further investigation and coordinated efforts by responding officers, police successfully apprehended the suspect, identified as Carlos Santana-Mateo, DOB 12/25/2006, of New London, Connecticut. A facsimile firearm, a black Airsoft gun, was also recovered at the time of Santana-Mateo’s apprehension.

Carlos Santana-Mateo was arrested and charged with the following criminal violations:

- Breach of Peace
- Carrying a Facsimile Firearm
