On Friday Night, August 28, 2026, the Gold Star Bridge project is going to shift I-95 Northbound Local into its Stage 1 alignment. The traffic impacts on this night shift will be single lane closures between 7:00pm and 7:00am. The existing I-95 Northbound Local bridge will not be fully closed. The Huntington Street / Route 32 NB on ramp will be closed on this shift and will be detoured via the contract detour.

This upcoming stage shift is minor and will have little impact to current operations. Currently, the two lanes of traffic are temporarily shifted towards the south of the bridge to provide room for Stage 1 barrier installation. This upcoming stage shift will shift the traffic 20’ left, towards the center of the bridge, and align it adjacent to the previously installed barrier. (Note – only the left side barrier is installed currently as the future right-side barrier is in a current travel lane) Once the traffic is shifted, the right-side barrier will be installed during nighttime lane closures. As this barrier is set, the β€˜Squeeze Point’ will begin to be formed as there will be barrier on both sides of the highway, with 2’ shoulders. This barrier installation, anchoring and fence installation will take approximately 1-2 months.

πŸ“’ PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Back to School: Share the Road, Protect Our Kids

Reminder to all community members that school will be back in session soon. With students returning to classrooms, our streets, sidewalks, and bus stops are once again filled with children β€” and we all share the responsibility of keeping them safe.

Whether you're a driver, a parent, or a neighbor, please take a moment to review these important reminders.

🚌 School Buses β€” Know the Law

Β· STOP when the red lights flash and the stop arm extends. Traffic in both directions must stop on undivided roadways.

Β· Remain stopped until the lights stop flashing, the stop arm retracts, and the bus begins moving again.

Β· Illegally passing a stopped school bus is a serious violation that carries significant fines and most importantly puts children's lives at risk.

Β· Be especially alert near bus stops in the early morning and afternoon hours when visibility may be reduced.

🚸 Watch for Student Pedestrians

Β· Slow down in school zones and obey all posted speed limits, which are strictly enforced when children are present.

Β· Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks β€” always. Yield to crossing guards and follow their directions.

Β· Be extra cautious near schools, parks, and residential areas during arrival (7:00–8:30 AM) and dismissal (2:30–4:00 PM) hours.

Β· Remember: children can be unpredictable. They may dart into the street, cross mid-block, or emerge from between parked vehicles.

🚴 🚢🏽Bikes and Walkers

Β· Give bike riders at least 3 feet of clearance when passing.

Β· Check mirrors and blind spots before opening car doors near bike lanes.

Β· Watch for students wearing headphones or looking at phones who may not hear or see approaching vehicles.

πŸ“΅ Eliminate Distractions

Β· Put the phone down. Texting while driving is not only illegal β€” it can be deadly.

Β· Avoid eating, adjusting the radio, or other distractions when driving near schools.

Β· Give the road your full attention, especially during school commute hours.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Parents & Guardians β€” You Can Help Too

Β· Talk with your children about crosswalk safety, bus stop behavior, and stranger awareness.

Β· If you drive your child to school, follow the designated drop-off and pick-up procedures β€” don't double-park or block traffic.

Β· Model safe pedestrian behavior. Kids learn by watching you.

β€’ πŸ‘œ Hide valuables out of sight β€” purses, laptops, bags, wallets, and loose change are all targets

β€’ πŸ›‘οΈ Use supplemental anti-theft devices whenever possible (steering wheel locks, pedal locks, alarms, GPS trackers)

β€’ πŸŒ™ Park in well-lit areas or in your garage when available

β€’ πŸ“„ Don't leave registration or insurance cards with your home address visible inside the vehicle
