✨Congratulations to Thames River Heritage Park , our 2026 Tourism Leader of the Year!✨

It's a year-round effort too, connecting over 25 heritage sites and institutional partners through a winter Lecture Series, Docent Academy, and educational programs that keep local history alive for the next generation.

Today, The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut celebrates General Dynamics Electric Boat's official groundbreaking ceremony at the former Crystal Mall site in Waterford, a transformational investment in our region's workforce and economy.

The nearly 900,000-square-foot facility will prepare the next generation of talent through expanded training opportunities in welding, engineering, cybersecurity, and advanced manufacturing. Featuring a welding school with triple the current capacity, 40 classrooms, prototype mockups, and augmented reality problem-solving technology, the campus represents the next era of workforce development and will support EB's growing workforce needs for years to come.

As speakers emphasized throughout the ceremony, Connecticut's greatest resource is its people. This investment will strengthen the workforce pipeline, support defense strategy, enhance educational opportunities, grow our communities' small businesses, influence individuals and families to stay within the region, and create career pathways for generations of residents. As Rob Brule, Waterford First Selectman noted, growth isn't just about getting bigger, it's about getting it right.

Thank you to GDEB’s President Mark Rayha and Director of Talent Acquisition Courtney Murphy, Connecticut State Building Trades Council & Training Institute's Executive Director Joseph Toner, and (Live Connecticut) DECD Deputy Commissioner Matthew Pugliese, along with leaders from the Town of Groton/City of Groton Government, Waterford Police Department, our local, state, and federal delegation, workforce development partners, and industry stakeholders for your dedication to advancing national security and further cementing Eastern Connecticut as an innovation hub and the Submarine Capital of the World.

Last night, The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce - Norwich, CT, Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce, and Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce memberships gathered at the beautiful Garde Arts Center in downtown New London for a special Centennial Kickoff Business After Hours. 🎈

The evening celebrated the launch of the Garde's 100th Anniversary Season 🎶🎤🎭 and the 80th Anniversary Season of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra 🎺🎻🎹, recognizing two organizations that have helped shape the cultural fabric of our region for generations.

Guests enjoyed networking throughout the historic venue, performances by ECSO musicians, and interactive experiences from STARS To STEM, Inc.’s Traveling Regional Planetarium. 🌕🔭 Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about the Garde's newest improvements, including a new loading dock 🚚 and access ramp designed to accommodate larger touring productions and support the theater's continued growth. 🙌🍿
