AEC is aware of a scam that may be targeting our membership. Scams often come from phone calls, with the caller threatening the immediate disconnection of power if a member does not send money to a third party. These scams sometimes ask members to go to a local drugstore to make these payments and are reported to target our Spanish-speaking members in particular. Please note that AEC will never disconnect power without sufficient notification and will never ask members to make payments in a way other than our approved, secure methods that are posted on our website. AEC would never ask a member to send money to a third party. If you receive a call claiming to be from AEC that you are unsure about, we advise you to hang up and call our office at 844-232-8894 to check the validity of the information you are being given. Stay alert and be careful to avoid scams.

Tennessee’s 1st round of dove season is open from September 1- 28, and we are asking our members to be extra safe when hunting. Please be aware of your surroundings and mindful of utility lines and facilities, otherwise electric and fiber lines can be damaged. AEC will pass along any costs associated with damage to utility lines and infrastructure from hunting activity. Hunters should always make sure their actions are courteous, considerate and careful. Enjoy this hunting season by being safe and responsible.

Empowering Safety is our number one priority, so we want to remind our members about Tennessee's "Move Over" Law. This law creates a safety zone to protect police, firefighters and other emergency personnel, as well as utility service equipment, highway maintenance vehicles and stationary recovery vehicles (wreckers). Motorists are required to either slow down or move over when these vehicles are properly marked and parked on the side of the road. The penalty for violating the “Move Over Law” in Tennessee is a maximum fine of up to $500 and possibly up to 30 days in jail.

Being mindful of this law is essential keep yourself and these workers safe as they serve our community. For more information, visit our website at https://www.aecoop.org/outages-safety/move-over- .

AEC has long offered a basic home energy inspection for free, but now we also offer HERS ratings for members! The HERS (home energy rating system) is the industry standard for advanced efficiency evaluation and gives more in-depth information on your home's efficiency. AEC is pleased to offer this new service at $250 for the HERS Rating for any residential home in our service area. New home construction is eligible for a $400 rebate through the New Homes program.

Using new technology and offering high quality evaluations are how we serve our members and continue to Power What Matters Most. For more information on how to sign up for an energy inspection, call 865-719-8322.
