Last week, AEC was recognized for the 20th year in a row as a Tree Line USA utility. This award is something we proudly earn each year by carefully maintaining the trees in our system in a way that cultivates a healthy environment and is safe for our members. Being a Tree Line USA utility means we intentionally care for the trees in our community and help educate our members on best practices for planting and maintaining their trees around power lines. This is a part of how we continue to Power What Matters Most for all of our membership.

URGENT - Please Be Aware!
We have had a handful of calls about a telephone scam – call appears to be from AEC and demands immediate payment by credit card, given a number to call to make payment and threatens electrical disconnect. AEC DOES NOT call our members to demand money over the phone. We encourage our members to NEVER give personal information to anyone they cannot completely identify. We encourage members to get a name of any caller and then hang up, and call AEC’s local number to inquire about any account concerns. Please do not fall victim to these scams.

AEC recently participated in the World of Work Fair with Grainger County Schools. We had a great day meeting with high school students and talking about opportunities available to them after graduation. AEC’s Community Relations Coordinator, Kim McGhee was there with Dexter Lowe and Shannon Trent to give students resources and answer questions they had. We are proud to have been a part of this great event!

AEC joined members of the community for a special event where Jefferson City was presented with the Tree City USA Designation Award for the 10th year. This is a huge honor that recognizes their efforts to encourage and implement good environmental practices.

During the event, AEC was also presented with the Tree Line USA Designation Award for the 20th year that recognizes our work in maintaining safe and healthy trees throughout our service area for our members.

We also were joined by a group of homeschoolers who listened to a presentation about the history of Earth Day and Arbor Day and a tree planting ceremony. Making these presentations was John Henderson of the TN State Forestry office. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this event happen and continues to promote good environmental practices for our community!

On Friday we celebrated Arbor Day with Mt. Horeb and recognized them as a certified Tree Campus through the National Arbor Day Foundation. Their student Tree Team worked hard this year to accomplish specific goals to promote environmentally friendly practices in the community, so we gave them a plaque and a $400 energy science grant to encourage their work going forward. For Arbor Day, the students also donated two redbud trees to Jefferson City in honor of their 10th year being recognized for the Tree City USA distinction.

We are grateful to be able to support and Empower Education for our students in ways to make our community a better place for our members.

We had a big week at the AEC office! First, on Tuesday we had our first ever Earth Day Kids Event, and families came out to build bird feeders and participate in Earth Day activities. It was a great event, and we appreciate everyone who came out to celebrate.

Then, yesterday we welcomed Jefferson County High School's Youth Leadership Class to tour our office and learn more about what AEC does for our membership. We are proud of these students as they work hard to grow into strong leaders for our community. We are always grateful for these opportunities to continue to Power What Matters Most for all our members.
