Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. There is increasing confidence for a period of heavy rainfall resulting in flash flooding for parts of the area. A few thunderstorms could potentially be strong to severe with the primary threat being a damaging wind gusts. Dangerous rip currents are expected at Atlantic Ocean beaches. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Bergen County beginning at midnight through 11pm Thursday 8/27. Possible heavy rains of 1-1.5 inches may cause flooding across the County, including, highways, streets with poor drainage or low lying areas. Bergen County OEM will continue to monitor this system and issue further alerts as needed!

One more chance at heat indices exceeding 95F today before things get a little cooler later this week. We're also anticipating a round of thunderstorms later this afternoon and evening. Some storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rain.

Due to heat indices of 90 plus degrees, Bergen County has opened Cooling Centers!! Cooling Centers will be open today thru Tuesday August 11,2026. Hours are 9am to 6pm daily. If you require a ride to a Cooling Center call 201-394-2882.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Bergen County from 8pm tonight until 11pm Monday August 3, 2026. Motorists and Residents are reminded to avoid flooded roadways during this time. Always remain weather aware!

New Milford Borough Alert: Presently the Hackensack River is at 4.51 ft according to the USGS, which is a high level. No need to panic, but with this predicted to be a heavy rain week, Please be aware ot possible flash flooding.this week in particular. If you see water, remember TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN. Please be safe and keep situational awareness always in you mind.
