ITC Workshop Instructions (Pre-work):
I hope this finds you well, and I am excited that you will be joining Virtual CREDO for our Immunity to Change™ Virtual Workshop!
This post is a bit long, but PLEASE:
• Take a couple of minutes to fully digest the content below.
• Ensure you are available for the entire workshop with no distractions.
• Have a few sheets of blank paper or blank Immunity Maps for the class.
The classroom will be open 30 minutes prior to start. Please join at early to do a Tech Check and then you can choose to step away or engage your fellow participants. Please read the tech tips at the bottom and be ready to start at least 5 minutes early.

We have planned this event to offer our participants both an introduction to a research-based, cutting-edge methodology for adult development, and an opportunity for personal self-reflection and growth. It can impact your relationships, your leadership, and your resilience at many levels.
Our work will begin with one specific question, which we are sending ahead to give you time to reflect about it. Please be ready to join the workshop with an answer that is powerful and important to you. Here is the question:
If you could get better at ONE THING — the One Big Thing that would make the biggest difference to your happiness and effectiveness, what would that be?
In Immunity to Change work, the answer to this question is called your Improvement Goal, and making sure you have a good, solid one will help your learning and experience in the workshop.
Here are some approaches people have used to generate powerful Improvement Goals:
• Sometimes you know intuitively what your Improvement Goal is because it’s something you’ve been trying to get better at or change for a while and you’ve never been able to do it.
• It might be what you have heard from colleagues in feedback sessions or reviews.
• It may also be that you either don’t really know or have a couple of areas of improvement in mind. If that’s the case you might want to imagine a small “focus group” of people who know you well and whose perspective and intentions you really trust. You could actually check in with them using the question above or you could consult them “virtually”, imagining what each of them would say to you.
• Some people are afraid to list a serious improvement goal because they perhaps feel embarrassed or vulnerable. Consider that if it really is “the One Big Thing” that will help you achieve greater impact, everybody around you likely already knows what it is!
Here’s how you will know if you have a good Improvement Goal for our Map Workshop:
• It’s true for you.
• It implicates you — it’s not a goal for someone else’s improvement!
• It’s not an outcome (like…my goal is to be more successful, or to increase efficiency on my team, or be seen as a strong leader). It’s about what YOU want/need to do to improve (possibly in the service of a specific outcome.)
• It’s stated in the affirmative (something you’re going to get better at or start doing, not something you’re going to stop doing.)
• It’s important to you — on a scale from 1-5 it’s AT LEAST a 4, probably a 5.
• There’s definitely room for improvement in this area.
Finally, here are a few “sample” Improvement Goals that we offer you to get you started with your own thinking:
• To “show up” more in meetings and share my thinking
• To live a healthier lifestyle / prioritize physical fitness
• To step back and allow my team to take on more responsibility
• To say NO more — to set priorities and actually stick with them
• To delegate more of what doesn’t belong to me so I can focus on my higher-level work
• To hold people accountable
• To become more disciplined to finish a particular project or goal
• To become a better listener: to listen to people carefully and thoroughly
• To have “tough” conversations and give honest feedback
I hope this information helps you arrive at our session with a powerful Improvement Goal in mind. I look forward to seeing you on Friday!
