This Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11th, Dr. Walter Block will be joining us in Jefferson Parish to give a talk on "What libertarianism has to say about veterans".

The meeting will take place at 7 PM at the Italian Pie in Harahan. We will be in the private room and serving pizza, salad and soft drinks. All liberty-minded people are encouraged to attend.

***UPDATE***
Walter Block won't be with us this month.
Walter Block has been trapped in Canada until September 19th because of COVID. We will still be meeting and still buying the pizza but Walter won't be there. We should have Walter with us at our September Meeting. Stay Tuned for a new date for Walter.

Join the Libertarian Party of Jefferson Parish Executive Committee for its monthly meeting Thursday August 26th.

We will have special guest, Dr Walter Block, world renown Libertarian theorist and Austrian Economist.

Dr Block will be talking about "What is libertarianism?" In a nutshell, it is the philosophy upon which the Libertarian Party has been founded. Dr Block will break that shell open for us and explain in great detail which may include how Ayn Rand herself converted him from being a pinko-commie college student. After that(and before that) it's all history and Dr. Block is an absolute expert on that. He will also answer any questions you may have about libertarianism after his talk.

Additionally, the Jefferson Parish Executive Committee has open leadership seats for registered Libertarian voters domiciled in Jefferson Parish. If you are interested in becoming more politically active and helping us to grow the Libertarian Party and Movement in the area, we will cover that as well.

If you are not a Jefferson Parish resident but are interested in the Party, you are welcome as well.

We will be providing pizza, salad and soft drinks for all guests.

Voter registration forms will be available for anyone that wishes to switch their voter registration to Libertarian to help us quantify how the Party is growing.

Please RSVP us at [email protected] to help us help the Italian Pie staff get ready for us. It's not required and if you can make it, please feel free to just drop in.

This morning on June 8th, the Louisiana State Senate will reconsider HB 565 by Representative Huval which will make almost any touching of a handheld cell phone in a car illegal. Additionally, on a third offense, it will be mandatory to suspend a person's driver's license for 30 days.

"The third violation of the provisions of this Section shall be punishable by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars but not less than one hundred dollars and shall include the suspension of the person's driver's license for a period of thirty days and, at the judge's discretion, community service not to exceed sixty hours, at least half of which shall consist of participation in a litter abatement or collection program."

This bill will unfairly affect the poor and allow additional harassment of the black community during a time when their are many concerns relative to over-policing.

Time is very short on this as it will be voted on again in the Louisiana Senate before noon if not earlier on 6/8/21.

Give them the Bill and the author (HB 565 by Huval). Tell them it is the bill to ban handheld use of cell phones in cars. Urge them to vote "NO". Be polite. Give them your reasons why. "It's too harsh." "It's not needed as distracted driving is already covered." " It's too broad." "It unfairly targets the poor.", etc
