🚒 MORE THAN 100 YEARS OF HISTORY. A NEW HOME. A NEW CHAPTER.

Today, the New Orleans Fire Department celebrated a milestone more than a century in the making with the ribbon-cutting of its new headquarters at 401 City Park Avenue.

Hosted by the New Orleans Fire Department, Mayor’s Office and Capital Projects Administration, the ceremony brought together Mayor Helena Moreno, NOFD Superintendent Roman Nelson, city officials, NOFD members and guests to mark the department’s historic move to a new location.

Following the ribbon-cutting, officials and guests toured the new headquarters and saw firsthand the modern spaces designed to support NOFD’s people and mission — from administrative offices and a 24-hour operations center to a dedicated emergency operations center and multi-use training space.

The approximately $12 million project represents an investment in the future of the New Orleans Fire Department and the people who serve this city every day.

For the first time in more than 100 years, NOFD Headquarters has a new home.

🩸🏆 Battle of the Badges Is Back — Help NOFD Defend the Title! 🚒

Mark your calendars and tell your friends and family — the Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is coming back to WDSU!

The NOFD took home the 2025 title, with 43 NOFD donors helping contribute to 84 units collected — the best Battle of the Badges turnout The Blood Center has seen since COVID.

Now, we’re asking our community to help us compete again! 🩸

🚒 41 Years of Service. One Unforgettable Final Shift.

Today, friends and family gathered to honor New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) Captain Ronald Beaulieu as he completed an incredible 41-year career with the department, including 36 years at Engine 29 in the French Quarter.

His final shift was made even more special as Captain Beaulieu worked alongside his son, who is also an NOFD captain.

At approximately 5 p.m., a D.C. firefighter accompanied by a bagpiper arrived at Engine 29 to present Captain Beaulieu with a commemorative plaque recognizing his years of service.

And in true New Orleans fashion, the celebration continued with a second line honoring Captain Beaulieu! 🎺🥁

After 41 years of serving New Orleans and building lasting friendships throughout the fire service, Captain Beaulieu’s career has come to a close.

Congratulations, Captain Beaulieu, and thank you for 41 years of service to New Orleans! 👏🚒❤️

⚜️ 21st Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

Twenty-one years later, we remember.

August 29, 2026, marks the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, a storm that forever changed New Orleans and communities across the Gulf Coast.

The New Orleans Fire Department recognizes 193 members who were on the job during Hurricane Katrina, along with the many others who served and supported New Orleans throughout the storm and its aftermath.

Today, we remember the lives lost and the countless residents, families and communities whose lives were forever changed.

We honor all who served during this historic event and recognize the courage, dedication and commitment demonstrated during one of the most challenging periods in our city’s history.

Twenty-one years later, we remember those we lost, honor those who served and recognize the resilience of New Orleans and its people.

🐶🐾 It’s National Dog Day — and Captain Billy is ready to celebrate!

Every year on August 26, National Dog Day celebrates our four-legged companions and the joy, comfort and companionship they bring into our lives. 🐾

Today, the New Orleans Fire Department is celebrating a very special member of our department family — Captain Billy, NOFD’s Crisis Response K-9! ❤️

From headquarters to the firehouse and throughout the department, Captain Billy brings comfort, companionship and plenty of smiles wherever he goes.

As the NOFD’s Crisis Response K-9, Captain Billy provides a welcoming presence and opportunities for members of our department to pause, connect and recharge.

Since joining the NOFD in 2025 through Thin Line Service Dogs, Captain Billy has become a much-loved member of the NOFD family.

🐾 He may have four paws, but he has a big role in our department.

🐾❤️ A busy day in the life of Captain Billy!

Captain Billy had a fun-filled day making the rounds across the New Orleans Fire Department. His day started at the Training Center, where he greeted firefighters attending In-Service Training. 🐶🚒

Next stop: Engine 31 in Venetian Isles, followed by a visit to Engine 36/Ladder 13.

After a busy day of tail wags, station visits, and making new friends, Captain Billy wrapped up his adventures at Engine 10—where he decided it was finally time to crash on the couches and watch the fish. 🐾🐟

Even a Crisis Response K-9 needs some time to recharge! ❤️

🔥 New Technology. Enhanced Safety.

The New Orleans Fire Department is honored to receive two personal thermal imaging cameras (TICs) through a grant from the Louisiana Firefighters Foundation.

Today, Superintendent Roman Nelson and NOFD personnel participated in training on the Seek FirePro 300, followed by hands-on exercises using the Max Fire Box.

The cameras will now undergo operational evaluation as the NOFD assesses their potential to enhance firefighter safety and situational awareness on the fireground.

Thank you to the Louisiana Firefighters Foundation, Louisiana Fireground Vision Initiative and SERVPRO for supporting this initiative.

🚒 Three-Alarm Fire on Napoleon Avenue Displaces Five Residents

On Thursday, August 20, the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 2229 Napoleon Avenue, where firefighters found heavy flames coming from the second floor of a three-story apartment building. Due to the size and spread of the fire, additional resources were requested, bringing the incident to a three-alarm fire. Firefighters worked from the outside to contain the fire and protect nearby buildings, bringing the fire under control at 9:48 p.m. Five residents were displaced from three apartments are being assisted by the American Red Cross. Firefighters also rescued two cats and continue searching for a third cat; one firefighter was transported to a local hospital for a heat-related illness. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
