WHY HERE, WHY NOW? We gather at a moment of ever-more unprecedented sadness, rage, resolve, grief, growth, setbacks, perseverance, small wins, big wins, mounting threats, human suffering, burgeoning liberatory power, boundless care. Our hearts have never been more full nor more broken. This, all as Israel’s cruel tenure across all of Palestine rages on; Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people is still ongoing, and here in the U.S., officials have made the cause of propping up the Israeli regime a centerpiece of this administration’s violent, white supremacist agenda. AND YET, we’re still here, we’re still together—where else would we be??!

We know that a better world, a world where Palestine is free—from the river, to the sea—is not only possible, but UNSTOPPABLE!! And we’re not going anywhere—until Palestinian liberation, justice, and return!!

The South continues to function as a crucial site for struggle in movements for collective liberation. While the South holds particular challenges for folks who both identify as Jewish and proudly engage in the struggle for Palestinian liberation, we find ourselves in a region brimming with uncommon organizing opportunities. We have a duty to uplift one another and to fight for justice from our unique position.

🐊🍉 One week left to grab the July issue of ANTIGRAVITY Magazine! Our op-ed, “Inside the Unlikely Successes from Louisiana’s Break the Bonds Campaign,” calls attention to the way that Louisianans are directly affected by our state’s institutional support of Israel. The Louisiana State Treasury invests funds earmarked for education into shady, unstable Israel bonds, which serve as an unrestricted source of funding for Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine and war in Iran. Rather than yielding adequate funds for our schools, these bonds exacerbate Louisiana’s already-dysfunctional education system by syphoning off money for pure political purposes.

Our BDS pressure campaign has been successful in reducing the Treasury’s holdings from $40M in Israel bonds to its current $25M. But the work isn’t over. We want every cent of that money diverted away from violence against Palestinian children and back into secure sources of funding for Louisiana schools.

Our tradition teaches that it is our moral imperative to resist fascism. In the struggle for Civil Rights, we saw some of our ancestors walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and others stand on the wrong side of history with the Alabama state troopers. We are called to choose which ancestors we will be today. We have a duty to carry each other along the journey to freedom and to fight for justice in our local communities.
