early giving starts today! make a contribution to lowernine.org's ongoing sustainable long term disaster recovery work in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward. for 20+ years this organization has been working to put and keep roofs over the heads of legacy (pre-Katrina) home owners in this neighborhood which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina years ago. make a lasting impact today.

That’s a wrap…on spring break programming for 2026! Immense gratitude for all our partners and volunteers who helped us complete repair work on five homes for legacy families from the Lower 9th Ward. Volunteers were up on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs, painting, installing gutters, repairing window frames, siding, and soffit & fascia. A few dedicated volunteers were also under houses, installing plumbing and replacing sill plates!

Many thanks to our volunteers, crew leaders, supporters, and community.

ms mcfadden was forced into an early retirement when the lower 9th ward's only high school closed. ms mcfadden is unable to pay fines being threatened against her home by new orleans historic district landmark commission (HDLC ) so lowernine.org stepped in. after repairing water and termite damaged weather boards...volunteers began scrapping and sanding old layers of paint off the house and then we primed it, the next step is painting! ms mcfadden wants her house painted mardi gras colors! want to help join this fun project? sign up as a rebuild volunteer using the link in our bio. we love our community and the volunteers that make this work possible

Thanks University of Louisville for your work on ! The group helped frame the interior ceilings and rafters; replace an area of the roof; dug post holes for a new fence, and rebuilt Mason’s front porch!
