As we work on the design for the new WAX, we are planning to add new scenes that depict a more inclusive history of the city. A lot has happened in the last 50 years, and there are a few individuals and events in the first 250 years of the city that we feel should be included.

What event, or individual, do you think should be included?

Remember - The work of Jazzland Foundation and re-opening of the WAX could not be completed without the generous gifts of our donors. Please consider making a gift now:

Want to see the WAX again? Donate now to the Jazzland Foundation. The new site has been selected and the design team has started work. Our capital campaign is underway. Whether it is $10, or more, the kindness and generosity of our supports will help make the WAX available for another 50 years.

The Musée Conti Historical Wax Museum is coming back! This must see New Orleans attraction was located in the New Orleans French Quarter. The French Quarter location closed in January 2016, but a new site has been selected and design work has begun.

We are kicking off our WAX Capital Campaign!

Musee Conti, or The WAX, officially closed its French Quarter location on January 31, 2016 after more than 50 years of providing locals and visitors the history of New Orleans using remarkably detailed wax figures. The building has since been converted into condos. Prior to the start of demolition, the Jazzland Foundation negotiated to acquire the wax figures and larger set pieces.

After a brief retirement, the wax figures will get a new home! The wax figures have spent the last two years in climate controlled storage. The site for its new home has been selected, and the design work for the new exhibit area has begun.

The displays showcased the history of New Orleans in a unique way that helped give school children throughout the region a better understanding of the people and events that shaped our culture and our lives today. Being able to see this representation, outside of a book and typical classroom, turns history "facts" into something more tangible.

Please help us make the re-opening a reality. Will you please consider a donation to help save these valuable artistic figures for the children of the next generation to experience?

Uh oh, looks like Napoleon is leading an escape attempt!

As reported earlier this week, the Musee Conti Historical Wax Museum will be making its re-appearance. While we originally intended the museum to be an attraction within Jazzland Theme Park, we felt that as the museum highlights the 300 year history of New Orleans, it was appropriate for it to come out of retirement in 2018 for the city's 300th birthday.

As part of the larger Jazzland Resort complex, we are moving forward with a small collection of entertainment venues near the park site. The Wax will be one of those venues. The new building will also include space for a Jazzland Theme Park preview center, assuming all moves forward as we hope, that will feature park models, live construction camera feeds, and general resort information.

Over the next few months, we will be finalizing site due diligence (current survey, environmental, geotechnical, etc) while our design team works on the construction drawings.

While the wording in the news may have sounded like we're giving up on the park, the reality is far from it. The reality is that we are making more and more financial commitments to move the resort project forward. While the Wax will be opening outside the park "instead" of our original plan, we do still intend for it to be a park attraction at a later date.

In the meantime, we'll make sure Napoleon doesn't escape :)

Pete has been freshened up and is back out on display. Until he rejoins the rest of the wax figures, you can visit him at the Old Mint Jazz Museum.

Honored to be able to lend the Pete Fountain wax figure to the Jazz Museum for the Pete Fountain-A Life Half-Fast exhibit.

The last of the museum pieces have now been moved, thanks to some help from Broadmoor and the good folks at Abba Movers. The cannons from the Battle of 1812 scene were in the back of the building and up on a stage. And HEAVY. We had to wait for some of the demo to get done before we could get them out. They are now in storage.

All of our friends, err, well, most of them anyway, enjoying the air conditioning and time out of the limelight. Don't fret, they will be re-united with their heads and hands before going back on display at Jazzland Park

MUSEE CONTI WAX FIGURES TO SEE NEW LIFE

New Orleans, Louisiana: Historic French Quarter family attraction will find new life at Jazzland Theme Park. Napoleon, Marie Laveau, and even Dracula, are currently being moved into storage to make way for new condos at their former home on Conti Street. The collection will be kept intact for future display at the new theme park.

“We are excited to be able to preserve this New Orleans treasure and to give it new life,” said Tonya Pope, president of TPC-NOLA who is behind efforts to re-open Jazzland. As Jazzland will highlight Louisiana’s unique art, music and cultural heritage, the Musee Conti Historical Wax Museum collection will fit in well with the other planned attractions. “We have just recently started design work on the building that will house the wax figures, but preliminary plans call for a ride attraction that takes guests through the historic scenes.” New scenes, wax figures, animatronics, and other features may be added as the design work progresses. The company is planning to use the Haunted Dungeon figures separately within the park, primarily during the Halloween season. The collection is being acquired through the Jazzland Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private foundation.

The former Musee Conti building is slated to become 16 high end condos, including three penthouses and onsite covered parking. “We are happy to see the wax figures stay as a complete collection,” said developer Jonathan Weber.
