Gas for car and generators AND Propane tanks, matches/lighters
Unplug electronics
Download ZELLO a Walkie Talkie app
Turn off water supplies and ice maker
Empty fridge/ice bottle - fill an empty water bottle, slant, freeze - stand straight up after frozen, if power goes out water will melt and ice will no longer be slanted or freeze a cup and toss a coin on top - if at bottom of cup ice melts, coin at bottom of cup
Oil for car
Charge cell phones, battery charger, have car chargers available and ready
Pets medical records/vaccine history

Old rags & beach towels on your windowsills. Even with the best windows & shutters, water seeping from the wind pressure happens. A few damp towels is better than soaked drywall or floors!

UNPLUG dishwasher, washer and dryer and use to store keepsakes you cannot take.
Electronics off the floor - unplugged- wrapped in tarps

If staying-
A safe place be in your home to be if storm hits
Family and neighbors contact info, and identification on yourself
Canned food, non-electric can opener
Plastic eating utensils, cups, plates
First Aid Kit/hand sanitizer
Batteries, flashlights, generator/gas, extension cords
Bug spray - first aid kit
Water 4 to 5 gallons per person x # of days
Pet food, pet ID tags, collars, crates, leashes or boarding arrangements/vaccine history
Fill bath tubs, towels, buckets
Tarps, nails, plastic have battery powered tools charged and ready
Chain saw, shovel, saws if trees are done - stay away from electrical lines/water,

Battery operated and radio/tape player and fans that can run off generator

Personal supplies TP, trash bags, soap, glasses, clothes and shoes wrapped in bags to stay dry, rain boots, rubber gloves, face masks, whistle or air horn to signal for help, diapers/wipes/formula etc

Start running your ice makers now and bagging the ice in freezer bags. Fill as much space in between your freezer items as you can.

Freeze regular tap water for pets, cleaning or drinking in tupperware-type containers. REMEMBER to leave a small bit of space between the top of the water & the lids so the ice expands but doesn't crack the container.

Start using up your perishables to make more room for ice in the freezer

SECURE ALL FI****MS & AMMUNITION PROPERLY.

Get contractor bags if your power is out put your frig stuff in one bag back in frig n freezer bag too
If you lose it all you may save your frig
So many folks lost their frig!freezer after Katrina cuz rotten food destroyed them
Also those gallon jugs come in handy freeze a few when you get notice of hurricane coming they last longer n keep food colder than cubes
We had 2-3 in big ounce chests n saved food to eat
Stock up on pet food, batteries, Coleman campfire lamps, meds, water, powdered Gatorade etc, insect spray, get cash n get small bills, ATMs don’t work n no one can give you change for $100s or even $20s

Here’s a few hurricane tips from your Katrina gal...
1-Get your plastic water bottles/jugs n freeze them TODAY) as many as will fit) Make sure you let a little water out for expansion. Not only will they last longer then cubes but you can drink them when they melt.
2-If you lose electricity while there or you evacuate, take any food that will spoil/rot like meat, chicken, seafood and put it in not one but two hefty bags..tie well and replace in freezer or frig..might take more than one bag. The food may spoil but you may not lose your appliance like so many Katrina folks did.
3-Gather your important papers
4-Get meds, animal food, etc
5-Gather your covid supplies
6-Fill up with gas today
7-Secure anything outside that will fly
8-Gather school supplies, uniforms
9-Check on your neighbors
10-Share this post
11-DO NOT let your kids play in standing or moving water. Urgent Care is hard to get to if they step on anything and tetanus is a nasty disease!!😳😳😳

from Victoria Witt: I have 10000 pictures loaded on 1/2 dozen CD/DVDs. Instead of packing pictures in my trunk, I load an album of discs - saving precious memories and leaving room to load pets and children!

Start a "cash stash" for emergencies.......once the power is gone so are the ATMs and of course banks are closed. Make sure the cash is in small bills, no one can change $100 bills.
