There’s a proposal in front of legislators that would cut $168 million from school funding in order to give a one time $2000 stipend ($167 a month pre-tax) - NOT a raise - to teachers. This would come at the expense of (supposed) non-instructional spending, which includes essential items like maintenance and insurance. Most school systems across the state are predictably losing their minds. Teachers I’ve spoken to are actually against. Legislators have until June 23 to vote; approval requires 2/3 of both chambers. We could have found the money for this, like we did to increase DOC spending by 100m, as just one example, but didn’t.
