Some callers to New Orleans 3-1-1 are getting an error message saying their call cannot go through. Anyone having issues reaching 3-1-1 can instead dial 504-539-3266, which will directly connect you to the same 3-1-1 Specialists (our 3-1-1 call-takers.)

This 3-1-1 connection problem is due to technical issues at a national wireless carrier, impacting customers of several brands of phones and wireless services. The carrier is working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

This issue is not impacting all 3-1-1 callers, and there is no impact on calling 9-1-1 or 9-1-1 services.

For anyone needing shelter from the freeze this Sunday or Monday, call 3-1-1.

People needing shelter will be accepted, free of charge, at the following locations:
• New Orleans Mission, 1130 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., starting at 4:30 p.m.
• The Salvation Army, 4526 S. Claiborne Ave., starting at 4:30 p.m.
• Low Barrier Shelter, 1530 Gravier St., starting at 4:30 p.m.
• Rosenwald Recreation Center, 1120 S Broad Ave, starting at 7 p.m.

Jan 1, 2025: Please be advised: Calls to the New Orleans 3-1-1 *are* being answered as quickly as possible. Callers to 3-1-1 can press "3" to reach an operator, and 3-1-1 callers are asked for patience and to remain on the line, as they may need to wait on hold a few minutes. We are working as quickly as possible process all the 3-1-1 calls from people inquiring about loved ones following today's terrible event.

Hoping everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving! Please note - The New Orleans 3-1-1 non-emergency line will close at 1 p.m. Nov 27 and re-open Dec 2 at 8 a.m. (The New Orleans 9-1-1 emergency line is in full operation 24/7, 365 days a year.)

A partial phone outage continues to impact Orleans Parish Communication District's NON-emergency phone numbers. New Orleans 9-1-1 line IS fully functional. In New Orleans, here are temporary backup #'s to report a non-emergency situation:

For the usual 504-821-2222 non-emergency number, use 504-539-3419 as a temporary backup.

If you have trouble reaching 3-1-1, you can call 504-539-3266 as a temporary backup.

Wed morning Hurricane Francine update:
- We have expanded our 3-1-1 hours Wed & Thurs to 6a to 10pm for non-emergency calls, and our 9-1-1 line continues with 24/7 operations.
- Our staff are staying on-site through the duration of the storm, please help our hard-working team out: If you call 3-1-1 or 9-1-1, it is *very* important that you not hang up! Please stay on the line (even if the call is accidental) until you reach our staff. Disconnecting will put you at the *back* of the line.
- Our staff also must call back to every disconnected call, which slows the process for everyone.
