The Strong Start Breastfeeding Program is operated through the City of New Orleans Health Department WIC clinics and funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. The program aims to increase the breastfeeding rates among African American New Orleanians, and particularly those served by the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, by promoting breastfeeding as a social norm, enhancing breastfeeding ed
ucation and counseling services for women and their families, and increasing breastfeeding support systems. The Latch Lounge is a component of Strong Start and specifically focuses on providing a relaxed breastfeeding-friendly space for which our WIC pregnant and breastfeeding moms and their families can receive breastfeeding education and counseling services. In addition, families are provided with additional community resources around breastfeeding and their pregnancy.
