The management continues to play games. So far we have seen and heard that:
- Allegedly, they or an entity onsite are attempting to rent out units as short-term rentals via other routes (such as corporate rental sites which we have the proof, but they took it down after we found out)
- Allegedly, they made some tenants sign NDAs to not talk with the media.
- Allegedly, they have refused to fix some working-class condo owners’ homes that have been gutted due to a faulty roof not allowing folks to move on.
- They continue the power imbalance by having a board that includes a friend of the developer, an employee of the management company of 1201 Canal Street and NOT full-time residents (condo owners or tenants). The developer owns 91 units and controls the board!
- Allegedly, tenants and working-class condo owners continue to be fined for speaking out, trying to throw their trash away on weekends in the trash chute, and much more!
The management, developer, and Bob Ellis lied to city council by saying that residents (condo owners and renters) supported the conversion of units to short-term rentals. If Councilmember King cares about his residents, then he would stand up for them by demanding that the management stop the games! Address the needs of condo owners under duress, protect the rights of renters to speak freely. The New Orleans Renters Rights Assembly is calling for city council to investigate the business practices of KFK Management, Ellie Khoury, the board at 1201 Canal Street (Wayne Hill, Lee Cuicchi and Bob Vaughn, and others) involved this project! The videos of how they speak to people living here are condescending. They make Trump look like an angel!
Join us this Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 6pm to 8pm for a special renters rights assembly where we will host candidates who are pro-housing justice. This is happening at First Grace United Methodist Church, 3401 Canal Street (entrance through back parking lot). Free dinner provided.
