Canvassing Training for Saving Right to Counsel

Saturday, August 8th 11:30am at DSA’s office at 2372 St. Claude Street (2nd floor at the Healing Center).

Right to Counsel is a pivotal piece of keeping tenants housed, protecting tenant rights in apartment buildings, and much more! Defunding Right to Counsel is a direct attack against working-class New Orleanians.

This is being organized by the Right to Counsel Coalition and by a decentralized group of housing justice activists, movement lawyers and tenant organizers.

Another day, another problem. The Backrooms brings us a world where our traumas manifest themselves. So, we decided to venture into “The Slumrooms” to find out what we could find about our collective slumlord traumas here in Louisiana. Take a look… but don’t look too long. After all, if you don’t fight it then you’ll end up getting stuck down there.

To fight back, we need collective resistance. Join up with the Tenant Organizing Committee of YOUR Renters Rights Assembly to gain the knowledge, the skills, and the support to fight back against any of these clowns. Our next meeting is Thursday, July 2nd at 6:00pm to 8:00pm at First Grace United Methodist Church, 3401 Canal Street (enterance through back parking lot). We partner with Jane Place and volunteer attorneys to host a renters rights clinic at every meeting. FREE dinner provided. Comment “fight the clowns” and we’ll send you more information. DM us directly if you want to organize in your building.

On Monday, January 5th, 2026 Ms. Gloria, a tenant of Artspace Bell School, received a 30 day notice to vacate despite Ms. Gloria’s prior requests to discuss the garden’s lease and its conditions with HRI Properties, the company that owns the property. This thriving community garden adjacent to the Artspace Apartments, where Ms. Gloria has been a tenant for several years, has been a place of joy, play, connection, education and growth for tenants, neighbors and community members of all ages. Feel free to share this post to spread the word, visit the change.org link in our bio to read more about the situation and sign the petition, or show up on Monday, January 12 at 10am at Ms. Gloria’s garden in-person to show support!
