We’re excited and proud to announce the newest addition to our team — and this one has four legs! 🐾🐾

After months of training, studying, and hard work, Officer Sprowl and his K9 partner, Raider, officially passed their certification test this morning, making Raider a full-time member of the team.

Raider is a 5-year-old Belgian Shepherd mix with nearly three years of previous law enforcement experience, having previously served as a K9 officer with the Valparaiso Police Department. When Officer Sprowl lateraled to NPPD, he purchased K9 Raider, who apparently decided retirement wasn’t for him and chose to continue serving the community alongside his handler.

Besides catching bad guys, Raider’s favorite thing to do is play fetch with his dad.

Everyone please welcome K9 Raider to our team!

Please enjoy the day and celebrate our wonderful men and women who gave all to protect our country. 🇺🇸

🚨 GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Investing in Officer Safety & Fiscal Responsibility 🚨

The New Palestine Police Department is proud to share that we have been awarded funding from the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant.

The grant covers half the cost of equipping 5 of our officers with brand-new bulletproof vests and load-bearing carriers. By securing outside federal funding, we protect our local tax dollars and ensure our officers have the necessary equipment they need to stay safe on duty.

As our town grows, so does our department! We will continue to seek out creative, alternative funding resources outside of our regular budget so we can keep the same high-level service our community expects from us, and remain fiscally responsible.

Thank you for your continued support of NPPD.

🚨 POLICE TRAINING NOTICE 🚨

This afternoon from 4:00–8:00 PM, members of the Hancock County Joint Tactical Team will be conducting a training exercise at New Palestine High School.

Residents may notice an increased law enforcement presence on campus during this time. This is only a scheduled training exercise, and there is no threat to the public.

We are grateful for our partnership with the local school district and appreciate their continued support in allowing us to utilize their facilities to better prepare and serve our community.

Thank you again to our friends New Palestine Community Schools.

We’ve recently received several calls regarding individuals, particularly juveniles, operating electronic bicycles (E-Bikes) on roadways and through local neighborhoods. With summer approaching and more cyclists expected, we want to take a moment to share some important information about E-Bike laws and safe operation.

Under Indiana law, E-Bikes are treated the same as traditional pedal bicycles. This means that E-Bikes are street legal and may be ridden on sidewalks, unless otherwise restricted by local ordinance. It should be noted, electric dirtbikes are not street legal.

E-Bikes are divided into three classes:

Class 1 – Pedal-assist only, with a top speed of 20 mph. These can be operated by riders of any age.
Class 2 – Equipped with a throttle that can be used without pedaling, with a maximum speed of 20 mph. Riders of any age may operate these as well.
Class 3 – May be throttle-assisted, capable of reaching speeds up to 28 mph. Operators must be at least 15 years old to ride these bikes.

Please note that officers will be monitoring E-Bike traffic in the same manner as motor vehicle traffic. Unsafe operation, violations of traffic laws, or reckless behavior will be addressed accordingly.

We encourage everyone to ride responsibly, respect traffic rules, and always wear a helmet. Enjoy your ride and stay safe this summer!

Fleeing felon apprehended after K9 Search

New Palestine, IN- A New Palestine man is in police custody after attempting to flee law enforcement during a warrant service.

On Monday, February 16th, New Palestine officers alongside members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve a felony warrant near the 3000 block West of US 52. When attempting to serve the warrant the wanted male, Shawn Pattison, attempted to flee law enforcement on foot. Officers on scene were able to successfully set up a perimeter in the surrounding area to ensure Pattison was located.

A K9 search and track ensued which successfully led officers to Pattison in a nearby wooded area. Pattison was then taken into police custody and transported to the Hancock County Jail.

The utilization of our K9 officers, drones, and other technology was essential in the location and apprehension of the suspect.

Pattison is facing preliminary charges of:

Resisting law enforcement (A-Mis.)
Cruelty to a law enforcement animal (A-Mis.)

The New Palestine Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance:

Hancock County Sheriff's Department
Greenfield Police Department
Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department - IN
Indiana State Police
Sugar Creek Township Fire Department
Hancock County 911 Center
Vernon Township Fire Department

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
