Not that you all need a reminder to , but here is the link to find your polling location for tomorrow. When voting for school board, I suggest you vote for your top 1 or 2 candidates....it helps those candidates the most versus filling up the ballot. 😊

On the issues....

In the next five years, what are the greatest challenges facing public education in Minnesota?

There are many challenges facing public education across our great state. These issues affect districts differently, as each school district can be entirely unique. However, I think there are three areas that all school districts will need to address. Those are equitable funding, school safety, and student well-being.

School funding affects all districts. Rural, or out-state school districts, are facing an aging population, and often lower tax base due to businesses moving to metropolitan areas. Inner-city districts are challenged with students that come from many different socioeconomic statuses. As our legislature reviews changing funding formulas, we must keep an informed mind on how it will affect our district, while advocating for proper funding at the legislature.

School safety and well-being are often connected. We need to create a community that embraces our differences and enables us to see our world through the lens of another. To move this mission forward we will need to engage all levels of government and the community at large. In my opinion, a healthy school environment helps create a healthy student, which creates a school where all students feel safe to learn.

Who is excited about the conversations teachers and administration are having about working towards safely returning kiddos (K-5) back into school full-time?!?

Below is a picture of our "counting from 1-10" lesson from earlier today for my kindergartener, Alaina. While I enjoy all of my extra time home with my kiddos, I will be honest, working a full-time job from home while supporting them 2-3 days a week is hard work. I look forward to handing off the reins of principal, teacher, custodian, and lunchroom worker (my least favorite new title) to those that are much more qualified!!

Being an accountant by day I like to think I am pretty good with numbers. 🤓

Tonight at our school board meeting I had the privilege of making a motion to "refinance" our school debt at historical low rates, saving the district hundreds of thousands of dollars over the next four years on these debt payments.

As a school board member, my mission is to ensure a high quality equitable education is delivered to ALL students in the New Prague area, all while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. The work done by the administration and the board helped accomplish that tonight.
