Teamwork Award – Dispatcher Alyse D’Alessio & Dispatcher Tim Kane

An off-duty police officer observed a vehicle matching the suspect description in connection with a retail theft and contacted dispatch via telephone. The call for service was entered promptly and dispatched without delay. While maintaining contact with the officer, you worked together effectively to relay critical information to responding units in real time.

As the off-duty officer continued to follow the suspects, you ensured updates were communicated clearly and efficiently, contributing to coordinated field operations.

Due to your actions and teamwork throughout the incident, two suspects were successfully apprehended in connection with shoplifting, conspiracy, and hindering charges.

Child Birth Award - Dispatcher Glenn Wall

In the early morning hours, you received a frantic phone call with screams in the background, with the caller reporting that his wife was about to give birth.

You quickly confirmed the location, including the vehicle description, as the caller advised they were enroute to the hospital but had to pull over.

Although this type of call is relatively uncommon, you remained calm and provided clear, effective assistance throughout the incident. You did not allow language barriers, the distress of the caller, or the urgency of the situation to affect the high level of service you consistently provide.

Your professionalism and composure contributed to the safe delivery of a baby girl.

Congratulations, Glenn, on your role in assisting with this successful outcome.

Life Saving Award – Dispatcher Jessica Gnazzo

You received a phone call from a third party reporting an unresponsive adult male with unknown breathing. The caller advised that her mother was on scene but spoke only Spanish. You confirmed the on scene contact number and promptly contacted Language Line to establish communication.

Despite the challenges associated with using translation services during an emergency, you were able to obtain critical information and took appropriate steps to initiate life-saving measures. Patrol officers and EMS responded to the scene, where NARCAN was administered twice, and the patient was subsequently transported to the hospital.

Although chest compression instructions were not delivered over the phone, you effectively began the process with the information available through the translator and maintained control of the call until responders arrived.

Your actions demonstrate strong dispatcher skills, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

Life Saving Award – Dispatcher Michael Turner

Dispatcher Turner received a 9-1-1 call reporting someone was not breathing and couldn’t be woken up. He calmly and quickly entered the call for service while still confirming all the necessary information in just over 30 seconds.

While all the responders were dispatched, he continued to provide CPR instructions. His voice and professionalism never wavered. The notes were updated in a timely manner, and verbal updates were given to the room.

A short time later, field responders reported they had a pulse, and the patient was transported to the hospital.

That day is commendable. It could be a routine alarm call for service or a true life or death emergency such as this, and composure doesn’t waver. Exceptional dispatcher skills.

Thank you for all you do and for providing a calm port in any storm.

During the second week of April, we recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Dispatchers are the first point of contact in emergencies - the calm voice in moments of fear and uncertainty. They connect those in need with help, turning chaos into coordination through guidance, reassurance, and decisive action.

Every call matters. Every second counts.

Their work may not be seen, but it is essential.

Before the lights and sirens - there is a voice.

We are the FIRST first responders.
